We have been attending both truck and Cup races here for the past 10 years. We have yet to be disappointed. The people in the Martinsville area have always been very welcoming. You have to eat a Martinsville hot dog or a fried bologna sandwich at the track. Food and beer prices are very reasonable. Cheapest tickets on the schedule. Not a bad seat in the house.
My husband and I attended the Goodys 500 race at Martinsville Speedway in October of 2014. We had a wonderful time! The facility is great, atmosphere was fun, racing was awesome, food variety was incredible, and views were fantastic. I've been to races at larger tracks & found the short track experience to be more exciting. I don't think there is a bad seat in the place! We were also impressed that parking is free. It DID take a long time to park (45 minutes from the time we arrived on the property), but we got out fairly quickly after the race. I will say, my whole life I have heard about the World Famous Martinsville Hot Dogs. We couldn't wait to try them. But, honestly, they were just OK. Next time, we will venture out to try something different. All in all, it was a great experience I doubt we will every forget. And we WILL be back.
I have been to several tracks, but this is my first review of one...The Pros:-Free Parking. This track offers free parking which is always nice, and we were able to park pretty close to the track (compared to Richmond and Bristol, who offer free parking but require a lengthy walk to get from the free parking lots to the track) - All the fan activities, including merchandise trailers and sponsor tents, were right next to each other, which was nice and super convenient for parties were people might want to do their own thing but not be separated for too long. - The track itself was very nice. Since its less then a mile, it seems like you can see the entire race from any seat. We sat in between turns 3 and 4 and never had an issue seeing anything. The Cons:- My biggest complaint would be the bathroom situation. The portable restrooms in the parking lots had no toilet paper, which seemed like poor planing (Its not like they dont know what to expect by now). Once we got to the track, it wasn't much better. The bathrooms near turns 3 and 4 looked like something out of my former summer camp. Small wooden stalls, no locks (seriously?) and one sink for about 10+ stalls. Now this is Nascar, so we dont expect the Four Seasons of bathrooms, but locks would have been nice. We did use the bathrooms closer to the front stretch on our way back to to the car and they were much nicer.- Leaving. This was the longest it ever took us to leave a track. It felt like traffic did not move for about an hour, and we look our time getting back to the car, expecting for most of the rush to have been gone by the time we got back.We will probably return, but with lower expectations (and our own toilet paper).
We were surprised that it wasn't sold out as the weather was spectacular. On the way in, we saw lots of inexpensive clothing, sunglasses and stadium seats for sale. Headphones are a great help and can be rented. Get a seat high enough up so that you can see most or all of the track. The bathrooms were clean. That's important to most of us. Parking is free on site but in short supply. We paid to park in a field but it was a short walk and leaving didn't take forever.
I didn't think I'd ever rate Martinsville above Bristol, but after a spectacular race last Sunday I would put it just a small notch above. The track was relatively easy to get into, with very helpful security along the way. Our seats were outstanding, and there was more room to stretch out than we had expected. The track makes for great racing and you can easily see the entire track from just about every seat. They were a little lacking on food booths, and exiting took awhile as it always does at these types of events, but overall we enjoyed everything about Martinsville (including Junior winning for the first time there!).
Martinsville Speedway has become a track with the excitement that Bristol use to have. Plenty of rubbing, bumping and strategy fighting for a win. The track does have parking issues for the Cup race and they really need to invest in a better sound (PA) system. They do present a nice prerace show and there are enough vendors to keeping you busy before the race. Tickets prices are some of the best of any Nascar race. Hotels 25miles out are fairly priced. Weather can vary greatly both spring and fall. Could be 80* or could be snowing. But still an exciting race and good time l Also the timing in the fall is peak colors...
Martinsville Speedway welcomes its fans with open arms and always puts on a great event. I go to several Nascar events throughout the year and this is the best one. The Martinsville Hot Dog is only $2 and small enough that you need several to get full and you'll enjoy every last bite! The Speedway also takes care of its returning guests who buy tickets from the track so I do recommend dealing with the track and you'll have the time of your life. At this track, you're close enough to hear, feel and smell the cars...awesome!
Our 6th time here one of the best tracks in Nascar, Will never Give up my Sec seats. what a Great Time and the Jr won the Race...........
We went to the Goody's Headache Shot 500 and had a BLAST! The race was GREAT....lots of passing, bumping, and paybacks. We have been to another short track (Bristol) and this one was more exciting. Our seats were great (section M, row 41).We should have brought a seat cushion but at least there were seat backs. I appreciated that there was a women's restroom on the higher level (a mens as well). There were lots of toilets but only one sink! I have never had to stand in line to use the sink before!! We arrived about 3 1/2 hours before racetime so were able to park on the grounds (no fee) and see all of the vendors. Exiting was easy and quick...since my driver didn't win, we didn't linger to watch the festivities and we were able to return our scanner and exit the parking lot within 30 minutes of the end of the race. It was very well organized....much, much easier to get in and out of than Bristol. The hotdogs were out of this world! We LOVED them and appreciated that they only cost $2.00. Everything was very reasonably priced at Martinsville. The only negative is that smoking is allowed in the grandstands. The woman who sat next to us must have smoked a carton of cigarettes.....seriously, she had a lit cigarette the entire race. I was about ready to vomit by the end of the race. People all around us smoked. I appreciate and understand that Martinsville is located in tobacco country but this was really awful.
Very nicely built track. Views from all sides is great. Lots of parking. Many options to park RVs. Great when there is a race twice a year.
