I joined 2 friends for a special occassion lunch at the end of October. The menu changes monthly, with a choice of vegetarian or non-vegetarian main course. Otherwise, it is a fixed price 4 course meal, with beverage choices. There are 3 seatings for lunch. I understand you can bring your own wine, if desired. We went to the greenhouse and giftshop and a dinner bell was rung when the next seating was to begin. It was about 30 minutes beyond our reserved time, so it is not a place to come to in a hurry. It is a place to dine. The service was perfect, the food well prepared and interesting, as well as delicious. We enjoyed the grounds and the buildings.
I've been numerous times in 25 years and it hasn't changed "at all". It's a throwback in time to a small NH town/attraction, found still at the end of a dirt road. The "attraction" part of the visit is to walk the limited grounds (go in season to enjoy the horticulture) and visit the tiny gift shop. The real attraction then is the food, and the experience of eating the 5-course menu which is a value in deliciousness. For a family of all ages, outings, friends, couples - it's a sweet event of delicious food in a simple, quaint setting leaving you replenished with food and indulged in relaxation devoid of today's technology overload. It's worth a visit at least 1x per year, where you should definately call ahead and reserve one of their 3 scheduled seatings.
I went with two girlfriends for a late lunch. Apparently, they added a few seatings because of the foliage, and ours was scheduled for 3:30 (we were seated at 4). We did not know that there was no bar available, but happened to have a bottle of wine with us, which they chilled for us and served without a corking fee. We were served 5 courses (although the first was a homemade onion dip with Pepperidge Farms crackers), with a choice of entrée, one of which was vegetarian, and all of the courses used fresh, seasonal ingredients. The monthly menu is available on the website. The cost was approximately $25 pp. We thought the food was delicious, and the fresh brewed iced tea and lavender lemonade were unusual and refreshing. The setting is lovely and we really enjoyed ourselves. We enjoyed walking around the grounds and gift shops; the paths to the rest rooms were downward sloping and uneven, which would be difficult for some people to navigate. Also, there are a few cats hanging out in the gift shops for those with allergies.
If you want truly garden fresh wholesome food then this place wont let you down. the portions seem small but every time I have gone I leave feeling very satisfied. the fresh herb garnishes are a great touch to any meal and everything is eatable even the flower garnishes...
Wow! Been before but never during peek blooming! The menu is always fascinating and delicious too. Pricey but it's great for special occassion, birthday, thank you for that special mom, friend, aunt, grammy, etc.
Hadn't been there in years, worth the side trip to go back. Didn't eat this time, but will make sure to do that next. Stocked up on my herbs and the car smelled wonderful all the way home.
I've been to Pickety Place a few times over the years. This year we celebrated Thanksgiving with a meal at Pickety Place one day early. The menu is a fixed menu each month with 2 different entree choices. There are no words to adequately describe the food. It's gourmet quality with herbs from the gardens at Pickety Place. The raspberry tea is delicious. The cost for the entire meal is $22 which is truly a bargain for such great food in such a special setting. We arrived at Pickety Place in the middle of a snow storm (which made it all the more beautiful). It's a bit of a journey "over the river and through the woods" but it is most certainly worth it. Highly recommended!
I brought my grandmother and granddaughter to Pickety Place to celebrate their birthdays, 87th and 4th. It was a perfect choice. This home is the setting for the 1955 Little Golden Book version of Red Riding Hood. They have a museum room with the wolf in grandmother's cap all tucked into a four post bed. All of the rooms's contents are from that time period. My granddaughter was amazed! They have three gift shops and beautiful gardens to explore. When the dinner bell rings you are served a five course lunch. They make use of the herbs from the gardens in every dish.Children have their meal delivered in a basket with a red napkin. This was my second time eating here. The menu changes every month, so I can't wait to go back!
I had the pleasure of dining at Pickety Place yesterday with my daughter, sister, mother and two friends. We arrived just in time for our 12:45 seating. The round table was perfect for conversation. Each course was delivered in good time and was out of this world delicious. I had the panko crusted pork entree and it was perfect. After lunch we wandered through the gift shop and greenhouse, and petted the lazy cat on the patio. Truly enjoyable! Worth the drive.
I started going to Pickety Place years ago and always loved it but at some point the chef and management changed and it's just not the same. I made 2 pm reservations and waited nearly 30 minutes for seating (I know it's a challenge for the wait staff to move the 12:30 seating along, but it just didn't seem as well managed or organized.) The food was also a disappointment. The dishes were once elegant and inspiring. It was evident that the former chef had a talent for using herbs to compliment seasonal foods to bring the best flavor out of each course. Now, it's just average fare. The staff seemed overwhelmed and disinterested and also rushed us out because I learned they had added an uncommon fourth seating for 3:30. Lastly, it was apparent that they have scaled way back on the merchandise in the gift shop, leaving it feeling sparse and cold (both figuratively and literally). I'm sure that to most people visiting for the first time, it's wonderful, but compared to what it once was, it's disappointing. I also disagree with the reviewer that recommended not taking a boyfriend or husband. That's ridiculous!
