What more can I say..... We went on a Scoopon and had a platter and the wine tastings. The place was buzzing and the hosts enjoyed the atmosphere and were able to get round to everyone and keep them happy. The Platter was lovely and the wines were gorgeous. We had a great afternoon and would definitely go back and recommend it to anyone. Thanks... :-) xxx
I visited Maximus wines and enjoyed a platter with accompanying wines that was really enjoyable. The cellar door is elevated on the higher section of Foggo Road and has a view over the surrounding areas. Very pleasant to sit there and enjoy the food and wine. The quality of the wine was good and typical of the McLaren Vale area. The winery is owned and managed by Rowland and Shelley Short. Shelley attended to us on the visit and I found her to be very friendly and helpful. I would recommend paying a visit and enjoying the view with food and wine.
We bought 2 x Groupon vouchers and visited the winery on 5 October as a birthday treat for our friends. We had a great experience, lovely wines and 2 delicious, fresh platters to share. Beautiful views and a great atmosphere. We took advantage of the wine 3 for 2 deal and left very happy!
I went to Maximus on a Scoupon voucher with my parents in October 2014. The cellar door has a great view and is very modern inside. Rowland being the wine maker was very knowledgable about the wines. The food platter was lovely. However I thought that being restricted to tasting only 6 wines was odd especially being a cellar door that does tastings for sales rather than brand awareness. Most cellars doors let you try what you want or ask you to pay a supplement for their premium wines. Shelley gave no information on the wine at all and we too found her a little abrupt. By bringing tastings to the table I think the hosts made a lot more work for themselves. The 2008 Centurion ? Shiraz is superb and at 25 dollars a bottle a bargain. One of the best Shiraz in Mclaren Vale IMHO and well worth the trip to Maximus alone. The wines are all reasonably priced around the 20-30 dollar mark. Worth a visit.
Hello CaroleThanks for your kind words. Shelley and I are very pleased that you both had a great Fathers Day experience with us and also that you enjoyed our wines. We look forward to seeing you again when you have an occasion to celebrate, or just for no reason. Best regards, Rowland
We went for a let lunch with a platter and wine tasting. The wines are excellent and the food good. The venue still needs a bit of work outside. It would be nice if there were more room to sit outside on a sunny afternoon.
Wonderful afternoon of wines and food. Brilliant experience. Lots of fun and brilliant atmosphere. A definite must
It was a beautiful day so we started with a bonus but it was just a wonderful lunch. The hosts, Rowland and Shelley, were informative, attentive and always timely with offers of help and advice. We enjoyed a tasting of their lovely wines followed by excellent lunch platters as we ended up sharing a table with a lovely couple we had met whilst tasting. Would have to be one of the best views in McLaren Vale.
We shared a very fresh and tasty food platter with 6 tasting wines. Great value overlooking a lovely location. Very friendly hosts. Bought some excellent wine to take home.
We went to this lovely modern winery last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed a cheese platter and a glass of wine. We had the opportunity to taste up to 6 wines which was more than enough. We happily left with bottles of our favourites. This winery is only open on weekends, but well worth a visit. Lovely hosts and fabulous views from the large windows. The carp ark is however much lower than the winery and a steep walk for disabled folk who forgot their walking stick ! You could get the driver to drop you up at the door and then drive to the carpark. Taste a wine while waiting for them to appear !!! Otherwise, absolutely enjoyable experience.
