Vacker vandring in i dalen. Sista biten lite stenig. Stigen var lätt att följa. Väl värt ett besök. Ta med vatten.
Trail to this glacier goes through beautiful valleys, dense forest, some wooden bridges over the wild mountain streams, past high amazing waterfalls. Totally worth it!
Really nice ans short trip - it shouldn't take more than 6-7 hours including resting and taking photos. The last part of the trip is a bit harder bcause f the rocks witch cover the road - but with quite good boot's with hard soles it won't be a problem for anybody. Be careful on the crossroads in the woods becasuse the trail is not sign very well.
It's a trip for one day, I think we've done it in 6 hours both ways, depends on on how fast you walk, and how often you stop to take pictures and enjoy the views. I think it's the best thing Mestia has to offer. Easy trail, I saw older people there, I think you could even take a 10-year old, if you walk slow and make some breaks. It;s not gangerous, no cliffs or anything, just some sharp rocks, so take good, higher shoes, with hard soles.
Great gclacier, grey and giant. At the heart of Svanetia. Tough way with jeeps but it worth to be seen.
A nice one day hike from Mestia (it is possible to take a taxi as well and walk only in the end). I am glad I went to see the place (we walked both ways and the scenery was very nice in September). May be next time I would spend more time in more distant places (such as the glacier close to Ushguli that I did not get to see). The Mestia glacier route is quite busy and touristy because it is so easily accesible by car and so on.
good track, but not best one in the area, you can start with it, since it is not to longenjoy Svaneti, it is so beautiful :)
This glacier is a walking distance from Mestia, though it is recommended to take a Jeep and cross the uninteresting road leading up to the bridge and the hut where the actual hike starts. An hour of easy-to-medium hike through the woods and along a river leads you to the terminal face of the glacier. You can actually walk on the ice shelf and watch the water emerge from underneath it!Very beautiful, and easily accessible in Georgian standards.
The way to the glacier takes you half of the day back and forward to the nearest town and it is really worth of it. Part of the the path goes in forest across river. The glacier is actually birth place of the river and it is impressive.
