The Glashuette was just a few minutes walk from our hotel and was really interesting. We were able to watch two of the glassworkers moulding and blowing glass vases which was fascinating. The shop itself was also very lovely with lots of different items to buy in all price ranges. It is next to the handicraft market too and a cafe although we did not eat there.Very nice place to spend half an hour
Monschau is a beautiful ancient village with half-timbered houses at the river Rur. it is popular with tourists for the ambiance, shops, restaurants and of course the famous Monschau mustard. Monschau is on its best when the weather is clement and you can sit at an outside table at a café or restaurant. Park the car at one of the three parking lots at the edge of Monschau historical city center. For a fee of course. Access by car of the city center is only allowed for residents. At one of the parking lots at the Burgau, an old glass factory building is given over to selling of glassware, knick-knacks and handicraft. This is the "Römische Glashütte". It is not really worth visiting, because the stalls remind of a tired Christmas market in an obscure village, the restaurant is uninviting and a bathroom visit is charged at 50 €cent, but you have shelter against a rain shower, and you can while away the time waiting for the weather to clear. Skip when the weather is nice.
