Mr. Beef,Thank you for your review of Shula's Golf Club. I apologize that the golf course did not meet your standards. We have plans for major renovations to the golf course this summer. I'm glad to hear that the service and greens were to your liking. We have experienced some weaker fairways this year due to record amounts of rainfall in teh SOuth Florida area last year. We have increased our fertilizer applications this winter to help alleviate this problem. I hope that your travels take you back to Miami and that you will be able to visit us again after our renovations. Thanks again for your feedback.
Greetings Lalalove,Thank you for your comments. I am not sure when you played with us last. During the month of July, our golf course received a total of 24 inches of rain. This record setting amount forced us to close the driving range and golf course a few times in July. Our golf course has dried out and everything is back open again. Our hours of operation in the summer are Tuesday - Sunday from 6:30am - 6pm. The golf course, clubhouse, restaurant, and driving range are closed on Mondays. We are in the early stages of renovating our driving range. The existing building is scheduled to be demolished later this month. Our plans include completely renovating the driving range. We renovated our greens, tees and bunkers last summer and are all in great shape. Certain times in the summer months we perform a maintenance practice called green aerification (punch holes in our greens.) This process provides much needed oxygen to the roots and allows the grass to remain healthy. The greens take 7-10 days under normal weather conditions to fully recover from the aerification. We used to operate with a Par 3 course. Our company still owns the land but has decided not to use it for a golf course. It suffered significant damage during Hurricane Wilma in 2005. At that time all efforts were made to clean up our Championship "Senator Course." The decision was made to no longer use the Par 3 land as a golf course after the storm cleanup. Our ownership has offered to donate the land to the town of Miami Lakes. We are waiting for their full acceptance of the land. I hope that you visit us again in the near future.
WordlyTraveler44 - Thank you for your review of Shula's Golf Club. While pace of play is an ongoing challenge for many golf courses, especially on busy days, it is a key component to a guest's experience. I apologize if the pace was too slow for you and that a ranger did not speak to your group. I recognize that the back nine is harder than the front nine and can play slower at times. Our rangers have been trained to monitor pace of play and work on groups that appear to be out of position on the golf course. I am not sure if the back nine had cart restrictions on the day you played. I know that cart path only resrtictions will slow down pace of play. We schedule groups to go out at 7 and 8 minute intervals. We will continue to monitor pace of play, search for ways to improve pace on busier than normal days, and re-train staff on how to handle pace of play. Thanks again for your feedback.
This course is interesting and enjoyable for the average golfer. It starts off fairly non-threatening, but the back nine is tricky with water hazards and some narrow fairways. Surroundings are scenic. It is not meticulously kept (some fairways and rough have rough patches, greens are mostly pretty good), but generally conditions are acceptable. Both the hotel and course are a bit time-worn; it could be a gem if maintenance and landscaping is lavished on it. We wanted a drink at the clubhouse but the bar/restaurant was closed, and we had to go to the hotel dining room instead. I would play it again.
Ms. Natalie L,Thank you for your comments from your recent visit to Shula's Golf Club. I apologize that the golf course did not meet your standards. I hope that you enjoyed our greens. They have been in superb shape all season. I'm glad to hear that the staff treated you well. We take great pride in providing a high level of service to our guests. We had some weakend fairways due to the record amounts of rainfall we experienced over the summer. This prevented us from treating weeds and applying fertilizer. We have been applying heavy amounts of fertilizer during the winter months to accelerate the growth rate of the grass. The conditions are continuing to improve. We have plans for major renovations to the golf course this summer. As a Canadian resident, you can book via the Canadian Golf Pass through our website for discounted rates. I hope that you will visit us next season after our renovations.
MM3808,Thank you for your comments regarding the former Par 3 Executive course. Hurricane Wilma did major damage to the course back in 2005. All efforts were put towards repairing our Championship Senator Course. The course is currently is great shape with new Champion Bermuda greens. I hope that you will visit us soon.Sincerely,Shula's Golf Club
Stelly3665,Thank you for your review of Shula's Golf Club. We renovated all of our greens with Champion Bermuda, all tee boxes with Celebration Bermuda and brand new sand in all of our bunkers last summer. I am glad that you enjoyed your experience with us. We hope to see you again in the near future.Sincerely,Shula's Golf Club.
Shula's is a decent course with a back nine distinctly more challenging than the front nine. It also features the most ratty driving range in the US. As a twosome, we expected to wait, but still played the front nine in a respectable 2 hrs. & 5 min. Then we made the turn, and it was like a death march......30 minutes to play hole 10, 30 minutes to play 11, 30 minutes to play hole 12. Calls to the ranger could not speed slow groups up; they wanted their money's worth. Starter must send groups off the back & it ruins pace of play for everyone. We quit after 14 holes and will never play at Shula,s again. They make ZERO effort to keep groups moving; so, it just isn't any fun. Golf is a game; games are supposed to be fun.
Greetings OntarioSkifreak. Thank you for your review of Shula's Golf Club. I am glad that you had a great time during your most recent visit. The course has been in excellent shape this fall, especially the greens. I am very pleased to hear that our staff Stan & Joseph Daniel (from Nevis) took good care of your group. We hope to see you again real soon. Sincerely,Shula's Golf Club
I have been to this course many times and it is a great place to play. It's tough, but not too frustrating. Also, there is always the chance of running into celebs playing the course.
