After touring Whitehall Museum House in Middletown, RI, we took the advice of the docents to check out Sweet Berry Farm for a very late breakfast. WE ARE SO GLAD WE DID! The Farm cafe has some of the best homemade ice cream and sorbets as well as a nice fresh selection of salads and hot foods. Definitely would recommend the fresh Strawberry & Raspberry Goat Cheese Salad, homemade macaroni salad, breakfast croissant sandwiches and iced coffee. In fact, there strawberries were just so good, we returned the following morning to pack in some fresh fruit for our drive back to New York. If you like to do your own fruit picking, this is the place to come. Service was just great and the little farm stand market attached to the cafe has all the staples you need as well as prepared foods to go. You will not be disappointed!
Nice drive out to Middletown. You go to the Farm Cafe/market to get your basket. Sizes include pint, quart, and 1/2 gallon size we got 2 of the quart baskets $17.00(ouch! This was a lot more than what we pd last yr in Little Compton). Anyway, you could drive or walk to the area to pick either blueberries or raspberries(we were there after strawberry season). We chose to walk and it was quite a pleasant walk (my rambunctious 5 yr old and moody teenager had no complaints). After picking blueberries we went back to the cafe/market place which was extremely hot, we bought a bite to eat but ate in the dining area adjacent to the cafe/market which was nice and cool. They also have a nice grassy area outside with umbrella shaded picnic tables. The weather was so nice some people chose to lay out a blanket for a picnic. The cafe had reasonable prices. We paid $22.00 for a family of four but the food was ok. But it's only fair to mention that we did not have any sandwiches, baked goods, or salads which looked delicious. I had a chili&bean soup, my husband had a slice of cheese pizza, my daughter had a chicken soup, and son a hot dog. Husband said peach ice cream was very good. The blueberries were delicious.
We love this orchard. They have so many varieties of apples & they also have peaches! It's also in an beautiful location. They also have their own retail shop & restaurant. A lovely way to spend a beautiful fall day. We have several orchards the next town over, but prefer to drive the 35 minutes for the total Sweet Berry experience. Great place which I highly recommend.
I love Sweet Berry. They are out of town away from the chaos and have much to offer. My particular favorite is their Clam Chowder. The broth is thin and the herbs just give it a little extra something special. They have plenty of food items to choose from including sandwiches, bakery items, salads, fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh ice cream....to much to name. Honestly it is not my husband's favorite place--he prefers a place that offers burgers and chicken fingers--but he knows how much I love it so he goes with the flow. I only visit Aquidneck once a year and I always make sure to visit Sweet Berry. If we had more time I would probably pick berries while there. You can also sit outside at a picnic table or in the grass if you like! Peaceful and delicious.
We had a great time picking apples at the Sweet Berry Farm. We were looking for something a little different to do in Newport and this was perfect and just about a 15 minute drive away. For a small price they give you a bag and you can pick as many apples as you can fit in your bag. And the apples were delicious!!
Great place to be on a Tuesday night in the summer for free concerts. The food they serve is usually very good. However, get there early for parking, a good spot on the lawn and for a dinner voucher. They run out of each very quickly.
We went here to see the Christmas tree farm but enjoyed the shop so much more. They sell farm fresh produce and eggs. The cheese selection is great. They also have a great gift shop. We bought several cheeses to have with wine and they were delicious.
We are just back from our 3rd summer vacation to Newport and Sweet Berry Farm is one of our must stop destinations. We found it by accident but now make it a regular part of our visit to Newport. Great place for lunch or ice cream. Hot and cold options, good sandwiches and fair prices. Pick blueberries or peaches with the kids. We picked up lunch all 3 days we went to the 3rd beach as they are very close.
Stopped for ice cream and was directed to the freeze for a prepackaged cup. I should have skipped it at that point. What happened to a fresh scoop. Ice cream had freezer burn, not very good. Bought cold saw and banana bread to take home. Cold saw was good, but banana bread was dry and NOT good . I served the day of purchase. I will not be back. A small loaf of banana bread $6 . The least they could do is put a banana in it. Rip Off!! Shaws is much cheaper and less expensive. Nice grounds for walking that's about it.
This farm is a jewel and unless someone tells you about it during your visit to the area, you might not get to enjoy what it has to offer. We have visited Newport and parked our RV in Middletown RI for years and never knew about Sweet Berry Farm until this summer. One visit there and we were hooked. This is the place for breakfast or lunch and of course for fresh fruits and veggies, along with home made ice cream and baked goods, including specialty breads and unique gift items.Every morning they bake fresh croissants, muffins, and scones and breakfast sandwiches on fresh croissants. Great coffee too! Serve yourself from fresh soups and sandwiches and more for lunch! You have to visit Sweet Berry Farm and try the food, buy fresh veggies or to pick your own fruit. We're hooked!
