Great place to watch the paddle boats go through the lock which was built in 1926. They go downstream on the hour and upstream on the half hour at no cost to the skippers. BBQS and a short walk to the weir and fish ladder. Of 13 locks and weirs on the Murray this is the only one that is not side by side. Also by going through the lock this is a man made made channel so you are in Victorian water for a short time!
A tourist trail, plenty to see. Just take your time and soak in the atmosphere. Walk across the lock and make your way to the weir, lots of history to soak in.
This site is very informative and very interesting. The grounds are neat and tidy and it is suggested the get there around 11.30am and 12.30pm as this is when the Paddlesteamer 'Melbourne' goes through the lock.
It was quite interesting to watch the mechahics of the lock & observe how a river boat can handle the experience. It was definitely an eye opener. This should attract anyone to enjoy it & the manicured srroundings.
Never seen how a lock works in a river until we visit the Murray. It works very efficiently and modern.
Lush lawns and a nice place to show off to out of towners even a picnic lunch or even at sunset as I've seen many beautiful ones here!
It is a Unique experience to watch this working Lock. The Lock Master is friendly and willing to have a chat about the Lock and the nearby weir. Easy to find and close to town.
This was an excellent experience. The vessel is around 100 years old. They cost you $35 pp and the trip is around 90 minutes. You get to see the bank of murray river. Beautiful houses and some very old boats and paddle steamers.Drinks, coffee and snacks are served *paid*. You can also get your hands on the wheels and get a certificate for successfully cruising around.A very good experience overall.
Well worth a look while in Mildura. The Murray is peaceful and you may lucky enough to catch some wildlife in the area. Popular place to fish at dusk.
Area around this Lock very well kept. has a gate that is locked at a certain time. Go when a Boat is going to use the Lock,as very interesting to watch the locks in action.
