Trevor Zoo is a must see for all families visiting Millbrook. Located at Millbrook School, one of the many excellent private schools in this area of New York and Connecticut, it is managed by teachers in the school's science department, and staffed by their students. It makes up part of the schools "sustainability" program. A simple question to one of the staff can lead to some interesting insights as to why certain species are endanger and what is being done about it. We all enjoy our visits there, young and old.
Great place to see and get close to some unusual animals (lemurs , for example). The zoo does not have any food area so be sure to bring your own meals/snacks.
We were looking for something to do with our toddler who loves animals, so we decided to check out this zoo we had heard about. It's a very nice little zoo. You can tell all the animals are well cared for and there are a good amount of them to see. We saw lemur, emu, a wallaby, alpaca, marmoset, owls, otters and so much more. Since it's very small and it was pretty quiet there it was a great place for our daughter to walk on her own a bit, which she loved. It took us about 2 hours to see the entire zoo and felt we definitely got our money's worth since the entrance fee is just a $5 donation. We'll definitely be back and I highly recommend it for parents with small children.
This small zoo is attached to the Millbrook High School complex and was created by a former biology teacher as a way for students to connect with conservation efforts in a hands-on learning environment. The entrance fee is only a $5 donation per person, and the zoo is open seven days a week from 8:30am to 5:00pm. During the week, students volunteer their time to help care for the animals. There are a wide variety of species from around the world, including red pandas, turkey vultures, lemurs, coati, red wolves, hawks, and emu. The zoo is also home to seven endangered species that they are helping to save from extinction, and it is active in local wildlife rehabilitation, as well. As a conservation center, the zoo is doing amazing work, and is a priceless local resource for students and educators. As a zoo, it offers quality over quantity, and is a fun, educational, and inexpensive outing for the whole family.
This accredited zoo was founded by a much loved teacher at Millbrook School, who found himself the recipient of injured and sick animals which he managed to cure. Now the zoo, set on the exquisite Millbrook School campus offers a view of over a hundred animals both native to the area and a few endangered species in a rambling naturalistic setting. There is pond at the beginning of the visit for birds, a waterfall with otters and a nice picnic ground, The animals are in part cared for by the "Zooies", students at the school who learn to love and tend these creatures as part of their community service. They and you will learn about the importance of our natural habitat as you connect with these beautiful animals and take away both wonder of and respect for living sustainably.
Trevor Zoo is a very special place. As part of Millbrook School it is the only zoo, possibly in North America, where high school students get hands on experience caring for the animals. The exhibits include indoor and outside meandering along lovely paths. One can spend hours or just a quick visit. There is no admittance fee but donations to help support the ongoing costs to operate the zoo are gladly accepted. Anyone visiting the Millbrook area should stop in for a visit, and if you see students go ahead and ask them which animals they care for!
A charming little zoo with a surprising variety of animals. How lovely that the school looks after all the animals. Absolutely darling.
We were pleasantly surprised at what a great zoo this is. So many exhibits, up close and personal. Lots of exploring for the kids great day!!
A lovely boutique zoo with many endangered species.such as lemurs, arctic foxes, red pandas, emus, otters, bobcats, sikh deer and herons in a quiet rural setting in Hunt Country. Children and adults will enjoy the zoo. A donation is requested. 10 minutes to Village of Millbrook for shops and restaurants. Not a lot of walking and seating available for a peaceful view of the lake and the waterfowl and water birds
I went to this zoo with my cousin and her 19 month old son. It is a nice zoo for small children, but I wouldn't recommend it for children above the age of 12. It was basically just something for us to do and to give the little guy some stimulation for the day, even though he had no idea what was going on. Over all, it is a small zoo to spend at most two hours at. Any more than that would be unnecessary.
