My daughter gave me this cruse for Fathers Day.First off I was very impressed how Capt. Dave conducted the tour. We all learned so many things not only about the river but early Millville.I views we saw from the boat where outstanding. We will be going back to see the fall colors and take more pictures.Even if you live around Millville and have never been down the river this is the way to go.
Captain Dave sure knows the history of the area! This is a great way to spend your afternoon, learning about the area, farming, glassmaking and other trades. You get to see many birds of prey including bald eagles. There is even a guarantee, that if you don't see one, you get a second trip for free. However, I have taken this cruise several times now and have always seen more than one bald eagle. Bring a cooler with water if you want but more importantly bring a camera! Capt. Dave provides you with binoculars that you can use for the up close and personal look at the great birds. This is really a must-do cruise!
Excellent river cruise guided by the owner capt. Dave, a real good South Jersey historian. It is likely to exceed your expectations. You are guaranteed to see bold eagles as well as numerous other bird species. Delightful riverside landscapes come alive with commentary from capt Dave. You can take your own provisions and enjoy a meal or a snack on the river. Capt. Dave has some interesting photo-albums and historical materials one can study while on board. For a family affair rent the entire boat and enjoy.
Beautiful trip with many sightings of eagles and osprey. Enjoyed the excellent history provided by the Captain.I was eager to take great photos and got many even though the day was cloudy. I am an artist and am eager to paint from my photos. We needed reservations because we traveled over an hour to get there. The 4-6 pm cruise was our choice and it well surpassed our expectations.
See the maurice river up .close. One of the oldest oyster fishing capital of the usa. This national scenic river, gives a view into the historical, natural and artistic world of southern nj. On a two hour cruise into the land of the bald eagle osprey, and the red tail hawk one can get the expirence of the swedish, dutch and english pioneers in one of the oldest sections of New Jersey &,Christiana,Well worth the drive ,And the two hour pontoon boat ride.
The Maurice River is designated as a Wild & Scewnic River by the National Parks Dept. We took trip trip as a family outing in late September with 21 family members. Capt Dave gave us a narrative history of the Millville/South Jersey area from early Colonial times to the present, including it's early Indians and settlers.. He's a very lifelong resident of the area and very knowledgeable and also pleasant. He was assisted by his grandson Drue. We brought along a picnic dinner and enjoyed food and drink during the cruise. Eagles and hawks were plentiful, and when on the river you felt felt like you might be on a jungle cruise in Costa Rica. The pontoon boat was very stable, and I don't believe anyone could sea sick since it's very calm with very little boat traffic. What a great way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon, especially as a side trip to the NJ seashore. Pricing is very reasonable, whether you charter the boat on go on one of the public trips.
A river cruise is the best way to see this National Scenic River. We saw a wonderful array of wildlife on the shore and in the air. Captain Dave provides lots of history. The easiest way to find it on your GPS is to put in 29 Ware Street. Or, for those of you handy with a map, look for where Main St. crosses the river. You'll see an intersection where Buck Street is on one side of Main and Ware Street is on the other. If you get to that intersection, you'll see the dock.Captain Dave Scherer can be reached at 856-327-1530. Don't miss this gem if you are in the area. I imagine local folks would enjoy this unique view and history of the area as well.
This was a nice and relaxing trip down the Maurice river. I saw three Eagles on this trip perched in trees along the banks. The Ospreys can be seen just about everywhere on the trip. We also spotted a buck in a backyard and some wild turkeys. Captain Dave gave a great presentation on the history of the area which really added too the trip. In addition you can bring your own coolers, so we brought wine, cheese, crackers which we enjoyed on the return trip back up river. Don't forget your binoculars for close up looks at the eagles and other birds that you will see during the cruise.
This was an amazing trip. I went with family and friends and we were WOWed! I grew up in Mauricetown and never saw the river from that vantage point. It was incredible. I believe we saw five eagles that day. For nature lovers of all kinds, this is a must do kind of thing. I now live in Florida and plan on making this an annual trip when I come home.
I would highly recommend this river cruise to anyone staying in the area or traveling to the southern NJ shore points. Captain Dave is full of information regarding the history of the area and fills you in on the history of the river during the cruise. We saw quite a few eagles (as promised) and numerous osprey. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and would do it again.
