It's located on Dakota Wesleyan's campus. Has some interesting exhibits showing South Dakota history, including old farming equipment, teepees, and lots of Native American beaded clothing (which was very beautiful). There are also art displays for South Dakota artists and various historical buildings--homes, railroad depot, and schoolhouse. Our kids had a great time.
Nice small museum with things to do for kids. Outside buildings show the efforts of lots of volunteers hours. They have done an excellent job of restoration.
This museum was just the right price and size for our family. We have a 5 year old and big, expensive museums just don't work for us right now. I felt like this one was great to get my daughter's feet wet in the museum experience. And there was the added bonus of her getting a prize for completing the scavenger hunt activity, which she really had fun with. I loved that there were so many interactive things- we loved using the washboard and ringer to "wash" the clothes!! There was a nice art exhibit upstairs and a large children's room also with puzzles, books, crafts, etc.
Lots going on here. Children's activities. Beautiful displays. We really enjoyed the native american art.
we went to this museum while in Mitchell, SD. Only took a little over an hour but was worth it. thought it was worth the stop and learned some new information. plus got to see some original paintings of Oscar Howe and Charles Hargens. worth the visit.
This was OK, but I think we are mid-west museumed out. There was a fiber arts display which was very interesting.
We arrived at the advertised hours with our granddaughter the first Saturday in October only to find a sign in the window saying the museum was closed for the fall for various reasons with no indication when it would reopening. The only thing you could see was the exterior of the four or five historic buildings on the site. This was very disappointing.
A very interesting little museum detailing the lives of the early Indians. A lot of history in a small place.
I likedthe museum and learning about what was in the area before us. It's well presented and a good place to stop to learn the history.
The kids loved it and so did mom and dad.... We learned alot and would go again given the chance.....
