Re: Doumo Di ModenaThis is the heart of Modena city !You could walk from Via Emilia into this place! You can see the large square, or Italian called it PIZZA! There is very historical church newly re-clean & completed with very high Tower. This is constracted at middle century! In the last 3 years, it is always "covered " by the facilities while it were being clean from outside. so, I am never able to see it is completely outlooks from outside.in Dec. my visit, this time before Christmas time, it is complete new. it is so pretty & all the stone sculpture. etc., very old & great design!I also go into Church to take a quick look. this church is one of most oldest design & most historical, & amazing decoration inside.
Still undergoing some renovations. Very interesting sculptures with intricate designs and architecture. Love the shops embracing the duomo. Enjoyed watching locals exchange their stories..
A bit austere, but lovely. Must see the lower level of the church - it is lovely. Located in the historic center of the town.
I don't know much about the history of this church, but it's very unique compared to the rest I've seen during the months I spent in Italy. I visited in the evening, and the dark lighting combined with the exposed brick interior was stunning. I thought it was absolutely majestic and worth a visit.
Very plain and exsquiste for it, building begun over 900 years ago and it retains the peace of ages and is a total contrast to the duomo in Parma.
Dominating the Piazza Grande.Last Sept. there wasn't much to see from outside, because it was undergoing renovations & most of it was covered.Inside it's very special: the chapels are arranged on 3 levels. There are marvellous reliefs, sculptures(the Lombardy lions are a repetitive motif).Don't miss the terracotta tableaux & sculptures(the last ones in the crypt).
I love that there is such a lovely Duomo that is owned by the community. Its history, the architecture, and the energy surrounding it all make it such a gem.
Dome of Modena is the most famous building in this city, being included in the list of UNESCO monuments. We liked very much.
Fially the Duomo is back clean. Very interesting romanic church, I suggest to visit it, and also to spend some time into Piazza Grande.
