wonderful church, with many statues, and it was just in front of our hotel grana barocco..
Although I'm not a big baroque architecture fan, this cathedral is worth a look. The evening light on the facade is stunning - all golden coloured stone. The inside is interesting too.
Initially built in the 14th century and then rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake. Whereas San Giorgio Cathedral was for the Nobles the San Pietro was for the common man. It is slightly smaller, but no less beautiful. San Pietro is the main church in Modica Bassa, the "lower" part of the town, is equal in importance to Cathedral of St.George, and is pure Sicilian Baroque.
thuis cathedral is very big, with many statues over the stairs in front of the main entrance.Inside is full of paintings ,colored windows, and altars are impressive.Very good experience.
Chiesa di san Pietro is another lovely church in this beautiful boroque town, it is situated in the lower town but is also a must see when in Modica.
this church is an example of baroque, very interesting to visit. On the main stairs to the church there are 12 stautes of the apostols, inside the decoration are very rich and lot to see.
Keep in mind that in Modica, there are hundreds of churches and the top one is St. Giorgio, and running a close second is St. Pietro. Both a must visit.
Located on Corso Umberto I, this church does not have the same lofty location as Chiesa di San Giorgio, but the statues flanking the few steps in front of the church do give the entrance a somewhat grand feel.
this cathedral was in front of our hotel grana barocco, and we walked in several times. Is a great example of baroque, amazing the statues on the stairs, and the glass painted windows.
The church St Peidro was a lovely quiet space to sit and think after climbing a short set of steps, at the same time I could hear young people sitting on the steps outside talking and laughing like young people anywhere.
