Despite visiting Melbourne many times, we hadn't previously been to the Shrine of Remembrance, but we should have been. A beautiful building with wonderful exhibits combines to make for a most moving experience. There is a huge amount to see, and to think about, and we will need to return for a further visit.
For us, this was a really special place even for visitors. Of course, it's special because of what it represents, but try to time your visit for the memorial ceremony. Very moving. Well laid out and informative.
The Shrine of Remembrance is a magnificent memorial to the Australian Soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice. The surrounding gardens are beautiful to walk in, the eternal flame in the courtyard is a moving memorial and every aspect of the building is impressive.Be sure to climb to the top of the building for a magnificent view of Melbourne. The new works that have been carried out in recent years have added to the already memorable memorial building.
In addition to the meditative atmosphere and strong architecture, the Shine of Remembrance is a photograper of instagrammer paradise. The view as you walk towards the shrine is like a journey soaking meditatively the mood of respect amd remembrance. The view from the shrine outwards is lovely. A lovely sitr.
