This is my second camp trip to this state park and it won't be my last! Making reservations on line is a breeze! Checking in is a breeze. So many trails to choose from! Campsites are clean as are the restroom facilities. This park offers so much and I imagine it's peak time is the summer months with the swimming area. They even have carpet golf, horse shoes, boat rentals, fishing spots and if you don't have fishing equipment... they'll LOAN you some! Park staff are the best! From the lady that checks you in to the park rangers.... awesome! You'll see staff members riding around the camp site and they'll stop and check on those that appear to be having problems... or they'll drive by with a smiles and a wave! Fellow campers do adhere to the Quiet Time Rule of 10:00 pm to 7:00 am which was very welcome by these Empty Nesters! Lots of RV's in the area! Special thanks to Ranger Scott! He was a tremendous help to my husband and I!
we walked the trails for about 15 minutes and saw nothing exciting but its ok I guess it must be nicer during the summer months
Having been on a quest to visit all South Carolina State Parks, I am also looking for those I want to bring my family to. This is definitely one of them. Camping, fishing, hiking, swimming, and local history are all draws to this park.
I have stayed in the cabins at Oconee about half a dozen times including this weekend. The cabins are rustic, having been built by the Civilian Conservation Corps but still with the comforts of home including central heat and air. The 20 cabins are spread along the edge of the lake. Quiet, peaceful, relaxing. Also, as an added bonus, only 20 minutes from our whitewater outfitter for the Chattooga River. Just perfect.
camping, cabins, putt-putt, swimming and more! OSP is a great get away, reserve a cabin, lean back and enjoy.
My wife and I camped here for 4 nights with a large group of about 17 other campers. The staff where very friendly when I called and asked about coming in late they gave me the gate code. We where originally in site 25 which is in the lower lake view sites but moved to site 29 which was very large and had a good view of everything. Most of the sites and roads through the campground are loose gravel mixed with sand. The sites had a 30amp and a 15amp power and water. There's a good bit to do, serval hiking trails, mini golf, swimming, boat and canoe rentals. We as did do one hiking trail called Hidden Falls which takes you to about a 70ft high water fall. It takes you to the bottom of the falls it was about a 5.4 miles. The bath houses are your typical SC state park bath houses, not to bad. As I mentioned above the park staff where very friendly they let us use one of the enclosed shelters to have our Potluck dinner an on the last day so of our stay the staff and a ranger came by and thanked use and asked if we had a good time which we did. They also come by an collect your trash pretty often during the day so I suggest any extra cans or bottles be placed in a different bag. All in all it was a nice park an we all had a good time.
We try and go to OSP At least once a year it is a real nice camp ground clean bath house's but some could use just a little more work and the sites are ok some bigger than other's we went the week after the 4th when we got there every site had camper's on them but every body there is friendly they have play grounds for children and a swimming area you can rent flat bottom boats and paddle boats they have a small putt putt coarse and 2 small lakes good fishing but I do think they need to change things a little cause it is the same thing every year maybe a different putt putt coarse and some thing else besides ping pong but all in all a nice cozy camp ground to just sit and relax
We spent a night in one of the park's vintage cabins, built by the CCC during the Great Depression. It has been beautifully restored/maintained and was completely set up for housekeeping with everything we needed to prepare meals, etc. Sitting on the porch with our morning coffee, we were entertained by a passing flock of wild turkeys! This was a delightful experience and so much better than staying in the usual hotel or motel.
The beauty of these mountains draw you in. Lots of water and falls to complement the forests. There is hiking for all body types. Oh, don't forget your dog ;)
This park is a great place to go for the weekend. We stayed in a tent and enjoyed our campsite. There were plenty of good hiking trails and canoes for rent. Mini golf and ping pong were also available. This was an all around enjoyable place to go camping especially if you like to go hiking!
