The main room at Old North State is very open and inviting, with dark wood and a smattering of tables throughout. Bar service can be a little slow when busy, but that's to be expected as it's one of the few places in town to get a drink and relax late night. They have a good selection of wines and some pretty impressive small plates, but no table service. In a larger city, ONS might be a little outclassed, but good wines and a laid-back vibe make it far and away the best option in Mount Airy.
The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. They had a great variety of sandwiches and Flatbread pizza. WOULD DEFINITELY EAT HERE AGAIN
This was not the vineyard I was expecting when we set GPS to get there, but then again, it's called a winery, not a vineyard... Situated in downtown Mt. Airy, also known as Mayberry, ONS Winery and Brewery has a great selection of wines and craft brews made onsite. The atmosphere was pleasant, the staff was excellent, and they had chairs available during your wine tasting. I'd recommend this to anyone visiting Mt. Airy / Mayberry.
My wife and I dropped in with another couple. The inside looks great. Unfortunately, we didn’t take advantage of the beer or wine tasting as we already had an afternoon of beer and wine tasting booked throughout the rest of the day. We really just popped in to grab a quick bite after we had spent the morning checking out the shops on Main Street. I was pleasantly surprised when they delivered the Philly cheesesteak that I ordered. It ranks as one of the best that I have ever had! The next time we’re in town we’ll be sure to pencil in more time here to take advantage of trying some of the locally produced drinks. My hats off to the cook on the cheesesteak. It completely hit the spot.
We drive an hour just to come here and have a glass of wine on our days off. We live Ashley, she's a great addition to the team, very friendly and bubbly. They are 1 of 2 wineries that we like ALL of the wines they offer. Their food is inexpensive and always fresh. The cute little town of Mayberry is a fun place to be also.
We only had wine here, but our choices were good! The appetizers served around us looked tempting too. We bought some wine to bring home with us.
We received some notice about this place so had some expectations. It was over crowded and the service was sub par. The patrons were loud and obnoxious I would not go again.
We got to taste the wine from this brewery the night before our visit to Mt. Airy. Very tasty! Then we decided to do lunch there the next day. The sandwiches were very tasty. I had a Turkey wrap with Pasta Salad and my friends both had the Reuben with fruit. Very good food! Of course, We had to buy a bottle of their wine to take with us. They also have a tasting of their wines at the bar.
My husband and I had heard great things about this place and stopped by one Saturday afternoon on our long weekend in the area. There were probably 5 patrons outside and 4-5 inside. The man behind the bar ignored us to the point of not even making eye contact while we sat at the bar. After about 12 minutes a woman finally asked for our drink order. Noting a refrigerator to the side of the bar and wondering if we had unknowingly done something wrong in the ordering/seating process my husband asked if he just should get his beer out of the fridge...? The woman snapped at him quite rudely that she would get it. He really wasn't complaining...we were just confused at the extreme lack of attention. I asked about the North State beer I had read about online. Apparently they don't have a brewery any longer...?? But again she made me feel like an idiot by saying very rudely, "we don't have north state beer!" End of discussion. No explanation. I had a glass of their wine instead. We hoped to have a drink each then maybe have a shared cheese plate or something. Passed some appetizer type food on a table on the way in that looked good. We asked if we could sit outside and we're basically dismissed with a wave of her hand and, "if there's room." We found a table but cleared it of plates and glasses from the former occupants ourselves. We never were checked on. We never saw a server. No one ever came out of the door except some of the patrons from inside leaving. My husband finally just went in and closed our bill without ordering anything else. Very, very disappointing. It could have been so much better. Nice set up and location. The wine was good. The service was the worst we've ever experienced, sadly.
We stopped for lunch and got a bold red wine, I got Merlot and my wife another red, both good. The wraps was amazing. I got the chicken and it was amazing. Did not take the tour, it was 25 degrees!!!
