Winter: Buller is my favourite in-bounds Aussie destination. Beginners to Intermediates could spend weeks here, Experts and Advanced (or anyone thats been to bigger Euro/Nth American resorts) may get a little bored as in the grand scheme of things, the place isn't "big". But what it has is pretty good. Theres bunny slopes, toboggan areas, terrain parks, decent groomed runs, snowmaking (weather permitting) and some decent steeper and off-piste terrain if you know where to look. Of course, each winter will vary - great snow coverage and all lifts turning one season, low snow and only partially open the next. Give it a crack, aside from an expensive lift ticket you've got nothing to lose.
We did love the wonderful views throughout the Vic Alps -Craig's Hut - Falls Creek and Mr Buller but would have loved to go on a chairlift at Mt Buller as I believe it would have been most impressive in Summer as well as snow - good tourist attraction for summer months - good for Victoria - we had a lovely time and stayed at Mansfield caravan park and did day trips most beautiful everywhere
Hi All, I am asian traveller and mt buller is the 1st destination with snow. Before this we are reading a lot and prepare , buying jackets, hat, glove . We had booked a day trip from melbourne and it was enjoyable. I had travel in end Aug 2014 which is the end season, still expecting snow but maybe less. The bus made a stop in Auzburg Resort for us to get some snow gear for hire. This is where i need to alert all 1st time traveller to mt buller, you might be "convince" that your jacket is not good enough and you need to rent etc and they will tell you is far expensive at mt buller. I fall for the advice by renting jackets, pants and boots after been told is super cold up there and i could not last a few minute walking at mt buller. However when i step foot at the hill top, i realized i was scam as all the rentals were too much ,too heavy and is not needed at all and become too hot and uncomfortable. I should had trust my research about mt buller and the weather and not trust the Auzburg resort advice. My advice to 1st time traveller to mt buller in the end season, there is no need to rent all those expensive winter gear at Auzburgh, if the weather is too harsh for you , is not too late to rent at mt buller, and the price only fraction of dollar extra, just shop around there is a lot of outlet upthere rather then spend a few hundred dollars and realized none is actually needed and become a burden to carry around.
An amazing place with spectacular views. Visited in December and was still very cold so take warm clothes. Be very careful when driving up as the roads are very dangerous
Mt Buller is one of Australia's premier ski playgrounds. They have a heap of terrain to suit every ski/boarder level, which was great when I was learning. The runs are super easy to get to with a heap of chairlifts on offer, and the town itself is great with a number of cafes and bars available to warm you up on those cold days! Definitely recommend skiing this mountain given it is only a few hours from Melbourne.
Liked everything about the place....and mostly that there wasn't any snow when I was there (summer).Beautiful roads, stunning countryside all around, a great place for a relaxing break away from the big smoke. only 3 hours drive from Melbourne and 8 hours from Sydney.
I had visited Mount buller in August .It had just started snowing then.We booked cabs and drove all the way from Melbourne to Mount BullerOne can hire vehicle provided you have a valid I'd proof and DL.The drive is v scenic and worth every minute. You will have to park your vehicle's in a town and then book a bus tickets to go to the Mt.Private vehicles are not allowed to drive to the mountain peak directly. We reached Mt Buller at around 11am and enjoyed various activities/sports on the snow for the whole day.You can try sking day packages which are not that expensive but it always works out cheaper in tours. All in all a fun day for all!It a place where you can find people of all age groups enjoying to their fullest.Do remember to grab something to eat before you reach there as there happens to be only one restaurant at the base of the mountain and the menu is limitedAlso do wear warm clothes as the temperature drop down hence gets Chilli in the evenings.I would still recommend visiting the location on a group tour as our trip costed us more than what a group tour would. One can find many such tours at the tourist information center in Melbourne next to the ACMIPs : ull get 50 percent discounted tour tickets at halftrix shop next to the town hall. The tours usually include return travel &sking lessons.
Went up for a drive and look around. The temperature was only 1.5 and overcast. We did some walking around, took lots of pictures and then stayed for dinner for something different.
I booked a day tour from Melbourne to Mt Buller. The drive is good, the place is awesome. I have not seen much snow before, and I wanted to learn to ski. The place will pleasantly treat you.The mountain is beautiful, the lift services efficient and the trainers of the Ski school friendly. Will definitely go back and try ski again. There are multiple shops in the foothills and also near the top where they rent the ski gear. I found it useful and the staff friendly. They will help to choose and fit the boots/ski for you.
Well.. If you are not into snow sports like me and going there just for the experience, get there early. if you are an avid skier too, get there early. Moral of the story - Get there early. This means you don't have to rush in and around and get parking closer to the entrance. the food is ok. but after a couple of hours in the cold, you need something hot. so go have a hot beverage and since I was there for about 2 - 3 hrs and not in the snow - I spent most of my time in the café. (I was with a bunch of people interested in skiing).
