If you love flowers, statues, greenery etc. this is the pace to go ! A photographers playground. Take a ride on a boat tour down the river and step back in time as you visit the old rice plantations. If you go in the summer BE AWARE it is and will be VERY, VERY hot. Take lot's of water and take time to rest.
What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon! And I can only imagine how much better it would be when flowers are blooming and vegetation is greener. This place has something for everyone, from kids to seniors. The statues are scattered throughout the grounds and are some of the most unique I've seen. A boat ride is offered as well as historical tours of what was once a ride plantation. The kids will love the up-close and personal views of the animals, which range from birds to otters to oxen. A must-see if you have three or four hours.
This is the nicest display of sculpture you will find. Hundreds of American sculptures are on display on the stunningly beautiful grounds and gardens. The guided tours are very informative. We spent 2 days there and still haven't seen it all. The wildlife zoo is very nice also.
This is the best kept secret in or near Myrtle Beach. The gardens are spectacular, with sculptures dating back to the 1920s, many of them by world-famous sculptors. The grounds are gorgeous with hundred-year-old live oaks, flowering bushes and changing flower beds as the seasons pass. There is a zoo outside the gardens, and an interpretive trail where the history of the plantation days is shown and told.Amazing experience, and the admission fee ($14/adult, $12/seniors) is good for a whole week. Almost everything is wheelchair-accessible.
Year round --- these gardens are full of surprises --- pass is good for several days, take advantage of those photo ops
Not to be missed. Make sure you designate enough time. We spent 3 hours and didn't get to see everything .We just tired out. Enjoyed the history of this previous rice plantation now garden. A real jewel on this coastline. Wished it had been warmer.
A very lovely place. We had a great time walking around the park for my wife birthday. My daughter loved the zoo.
Brookgreen Gardens is a well known sculpture garden and it excels at this. The paths are laid out so they meander around the sculptures in such a way that you see the sculptures from multiple angles. You will wonder through outdoor galleries filled with 2 to 5 foot sculptures arranged in "rooms" and you will see massive sculptures as large as a U-Haul truck. Many of them draw from mythology but others have more contemporary themes. There are also two restaurants, an art gallery, and a lovely gift shop to enhance your visit. If you wander a little farther from the parking lot, you will find an area that educates visitors about the rice history of the site by using educational signs, overlooks, recreations of buildings, and other ways. It is done very well and was a most unexpected delight!Go just a little farther and you will get to the zoo. I didn't make it this far because I spent so much in the rice slavery area.
