Birders and non-birders alike will enjoy a visit to the center and the walk out over the marsh. We enjoyed a tour given by a knowledgeable volunteer who pointed out a great many of the species that over-winter in the area. It's a good place to learn of other birding spots to visit in south Texas as well. Highly recommended!
This was a fantastic place to seemany species of birds. The s.tatic displays upstairs alone were worth the price of admission. There is an alligator with her babies on site
The film we viewed on the South Padre Island and the bird migration information was very interesting. The photos and exhibits on types of bird that migrate to the islands was very interesting and the colors beautiful. Was a very cold and windy day so we did not make the long walk down the walkway which I was sorry to miss, maybe next time.
Great birding here and a good gift shop for toys for children and prints and bird photographs. We saw quite a variety of birds at close range: great blue herons, great egrets, lesser bitterns, clapper rail, teals, curlews, gallinules, coots. Cheap also....only $4.00 for seniors. We went twice.
There's alot about SPI that's tacky and dingy, like it's had one too many beers spilled on the carpet. This place is new and really well done, clean and beautiful. The boardwalks must have cost a fortune. The kids liked the alligator and the nature demonstrations upstairs.
Great place to visit. It was VERY windy the day we visited. We enjoyed the enclosed tower for viewing as well as the boardwalk.
this was really cool. The cat walks thru over the laguna had quite a few bird species and crabs and even an alligator with babies. Very peaceful and tranquil landscape.
What a great experience. So many birds, saw fish, alligator. Nice hike!!Fun to over look the city from the third floor.Help was vary knowledgeable.
Saw about 7 different species of birds in their own habitat.. enjoyed the walk in the place they built and maintained really well!
There is a very friendly volunteer who helped us at the front desk. She had a lot of information for us. There was a lot of interesting information and showcases. Outside, there was a 1.5 km walk around the marshes, full of birds and ducks. Serious birders would love this place. It was very pleasant to see the birds and hear the sweet soft sounds of spring.
