A beautiful lake, probably a surprise for those who don't live locally. A large piece of water, very scenic and lots to do for those who enjoy kayaking or paddling, or bike riding. Good place for locals to enjoy a picnic.
We live nearby and think we are so lucky to have this Lake to fish, sail, swim and picnic at,plus a couple of good restaurants with great views and beautiful walks. There are places to hire canoes, boats, paddleboards and Narrabeen caravan park sits beside the lake and is only metres from the ocean. We are very lucky.
Having walked along the lakes for years it remains a very peaceful and enjoyable place to exercise, good for a bbq or picnic or take the kids to one of several play areas as you go around the lake.Better still a nice spot to teach young children how to fish in a safe environment. On the 3rd Sunday of every month there are the local markets which have grown in size and quality over the years and well worth stopping by.
It is years since we had been to Narrabeen Lakes, so we made a point of going there over the Christmas holidays. The area had something for all of us: the surf beach at North Narrabeen, safe recreation on the lagoon with canoes for hire at Berry Reserve and stand up paddle boards at Jamieson Park, good parks to relax in and walking tracks to stroll along and a choice of several restaurants on the main road at Narrabeen itself. However by driving along Wakehurst Parkway towards the Sydney Academy of Sport, we found a great spot for a picnic on the western side of the lagoon at Middle Creek Reserve. Warringah Council has provided toilet facilities, shelter sheds, tables and free electric barbecues in this park, set among the casuarina and paper bark trees. The Council has also started work here on a significant extension to the walking track beside the lagoon, with an estimated completion date of December 2014. There were plenty of water birds to be seen on Middle Creek itself and as we looked around us at the tree covered ridges and the extensive lagoon it was hard to believe we were still in a suburban area. We watched local youngsters launch their windsurfer boards off the boat ramp and zip across the water. A magic spot.
There's a new walk around the lake, almost finished. Peaceful, lots of birds and little animals, picnicareas are provided, too. It's an easy, level walk, so possible for prams/wheelchairs. And there are a few cafes/restaurants right on the lakeside! Paddle boarding/kayaking/fishing is possible (you can hire equipment), and on the other sideyouve got playgrounds. Almost too good to be true :-)
Living right near the lake my husband and I often stroll down from our apartment and dawdle along the pathway. Sometimes rude people on bikes and children on bikes with rude parents can be frustrating but the majority of people have common sense and say thank you and smile when you get out of their way. It can be very peaceful to walk along he path as you often see ducklings and there are always ducks and geese around to watch. Not to mention people walking lots of dogs which is always nice when you can't have one of your own. There are sometimes markets on which are good but can be rather chaotic compared to the usual serenity. Great place for a picnic or to waste some time walking along the lake people/dog/duck watching.
Narrabeen! Narrabeen, most beautiful place I have ever seen. On a lovely day the scenic lake is an absolute joy! Ducks, many fish, pelicans and crowds of people enjoying water sports in canoes, on stand up boards and small fishing boats. On shore a wonderful path around the lakes edge with walkers, babies in prams, cyclists all exercising and taking the fresh air. Recreation at its best!
Great place to bike ride - can go up to 14 kms or more - depending how far you would like to go. Lots of places for kayaking or stand up paddling. Lots of picnic grounds too.
Love Narrabeen Lakes. Went to deep creek had a picnic lunch then fished with my son. He caught a bream and i caught a sand whiting. Use prawns but by Squid as if lasts let on the hook. Great fishing spot.We then ended up around the corner having a swim in the lakes. So warm. Plenty of wildlife. Ducks were so tame they were eating out of our hands.Narrabeen lakes is a must do and see especially when u have kids..
The trail will be a great addition to the the natural area of the lake, allowing people to walk around the back half of the lake. Great place to see the black swans near deep creek.
