The men that volunteer to do the tours are American hero's. They all served in the military and do an excellent job. Come aboard and see how the men and women who protect our freedom live.
I am here at Ft Lee Virginia for 2 weeks and had a weekend to explore. I went to the Norfolk and went to Nauticus and took the gold ticket tour of the USS Wisconsin Battleship. Awesome tour and very good tour guide with a lot of knowledge of the history of this ship. The indoor museum has great areas and a wealth of history and exhibits. A must see for sure.
Cost for a military member entering was $12.95 for the basic tour, the advanced tour was $35. I took the basic, but while I was onboard they offered an additional 'extra' tour of the galley, and I got to have a look deeper below decks than they usually offer.
Staff was informative, respectful and the ship self tour was very enlightening. The price was right, this is a must see for anybody. God Bless the Veterans!
Great Location, great museum, great ship to tour, you will need several hours. Great for kids about 7 and older. Close to restaurants and the River walk.
I have to say this combines the two things I hate the most and that is water and heights. However, I could not go to Norfolk, VA and not see or take pictures of a battleship. This was absolutely awesome. You can have a guided tour or a self guided tour.
If you have ever been in the Navy or wondered what life is like aboard a Navy ship this is great! You get to see it first hand from the berthing areas and the officers quarters. Walking on the wooden deck and seeing the ship as a sailor would see it.
Stopped by the museum and toured the USS Wisconsin while on vacation with my family. Our kids liked all the components of the battleship and looking through it all. My only complaint is that the heat was awful that day, but it certainly isn't anything the museum can do anything about. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience. As a daughter of a navy brat who happened to be norn and raised in Wisconsin, this was a treat!
We took the self guided tour and were able to access a good portion of the Wisconsin. The upper levels are only accessible on a private tour so it may be worth a little extra to see the rest. We didn't have a lot of time but were still able to see a lot. The Nauticus museum has many displays and artifacts. They have done a very good job at covering US Naval history.
We bought a combined ticket to visit the the battleship and the maritime centre. But before that we enjoyed a great boat tour of the Norfolk naval base. We all loved self touring the battleship. We met one volunteer who had been stationed on the ship and was able to tell us real stories about how life was on the ship. Just touring the living quarters certainly shows how hard life must have been. One can pay more for an escorted tour that goes into more parts of the ship excluded from the self tour. As we had paid for the Norfolk river tour and the Nauticus centre we didn't add that part. It needs a full day to do all 3 justice. Great photo opportunities of the ship.
