I went out as part of a group to kayak down the Monocacy River with Shane, Maury, and Christina. The guides did a great job telling us what to expect and teaching us the basics of kayaking for those of us who were less familiar. The scenery was fantastic, especially since we went out during fall. I would go on this trip again or any other trip that these guys offer. I'm hoping to get some white water rafting in the spring when the water picks up. Would highly recommend to others.
It is not often that I am surprised but I was blown away at the quality of the experience that we had with Shane the trail guide/biologist. He took my troop on a guided hike that was physically challenging but not exhausting. He pointed out dangers in the forest like animal life and nettles. He helped us identify mushrooms and berries by type. He taught us how to identify selfish and benthic macroinvertibrates. Although a bit of money, it was SO worth it.
My school took a field trip to River & Trail Outfitters in Maryland last month. I had never gone kayaking before, so I was very nervous. Our trail guides, Bryan and Maury were amazing at helping teach us highschoolers the basic's of kayaking. As we floated/kayaked down the Potomac, they told us interesting facts about where we were, the trees, the animals, and everything around us. We had a group of about 30, and they made sure nobody was left behind. It was inexpensive and a great way to get on the River. When I go kayaking again, it will definitely be with River and Trail!
We went on a kayaking trip and had a great time. The leaves were changing so the river was gorgeous. We even saw a few bald eagles. Our guides Maury, Christina, and Shane were good as well! They taught us proper paddling technique among other fun things.
For the past several years, my school has taken a 10th grade class trip with anywhere from 60-80 girls to Harper's Ferry, WV. We had a great time again this year with Mike and Maury biking a short distance on the C&O Canal Towpath from Brunswick, MD to Harper's Ferry, WV. They brought in all of the bikes, made sure the girls had knowledge and equipment to operate them safely, and then accompanied us on the short 6-mile ride to Harper's Ferry (the bridge). They stayed with the bikes while the group went into town for lunch, and then rode back with us. We had the unfortunate luck of getting 3 flats on the ride (all rear tires, of course), but both Mike and Maury fixed them quickly and with a smile!I love this outfitter, and will definitely use them again in the future.
No complaints about the rafting trip, which was organized as part of a training course at work. Guides were courteous and informative. Had some miscommunication about the details of our trip and difficulty with our shuttle to the Outfitters from DC, but nothing beats a day out of the office and on the river.
We took our sophomore class of 58 students for a day of cycling along the C&O canal tow path. Mike and Maury were our guides and mechanical, support for this fantastic ride. Both took the time to fit us with the right size bikes and to review the rules of the trail before we set out. Along the way they shared information about the history of the canal and Harpers Ferry. Unfortunately we had 3 flat tires in our group, but fortunately we had Mike and Maury to make quick repairs. These two gentlemen were friendly, knowledgable and professional at all times. We will definitely use River & Trail again next year and we'll ask for Maury and Mike
We went on the Boat and Brewery trip on the Monocacy River. The fall colors were starting to come out, so the scenery was beautiful. We saw 2 bald eagles flying low over the river. Our guides were very knowledgeable and made the trip really fun. Thanks Christina, Maury, and Shane. This section of the river was pretty docile with a few technical sections, so this trip would be suitable for beginners.
If you want to have a great day away from the hustle and bustle of the city or suburbs take a day trip to Harpers Ferry and bike along the Potomac river. We always use River and Trail Outfitters. They can accommodate any group size. No need to bring anything. They have it all for very reasonable prices and super friendly service. Special thanks to Mike & Maury for once again making our day so fun and enjoyable. They really know the area and will meet any need you have.
My Heritage High School Outdoor Ed. class took a kayaking field trip, and it was the best field trip I had ever been on! Our kayaking tour guides, Brian and Maury, were phenomenal, and they taught us random, but interesting facts about the wildlife and plant life around us. River and Trail Outfitters is a great place to go for an awesome kayaking experience! -Marina Knapik
