we were very fortunate to get a tour. when we arrived the building was locked. A man who takes care of the synagogue appeared out of nowhere and opened the building and gave us a comprehensive tour, albeit all in Serbian. I didn't enquire whether he spoke English, but my impression was that he did not. A very impressive building with a huge dome and lovely stained glass.
The synogogue is still in use, but it is used mostly also as concert hall. Very intesting monument and an excellent place for concerts!
During one of my visits in Novi Sad a local friend of mine arranged with the Jewish community to let us in to visit the building. Despite the fact that nowadays the synagogue is not used for religious ceremonies but for many cultural concerts and events, they managed to preserve the spiritual atmosphere really well. Another stunning example of the Hungarian synagoge architecture at the turn of the 20th century, in much better condition that many of its counterparts in Hungary.A must see.
Amazing place! I am always trying to visit any concerts in this place - symphoneis, operas... Very beutiful from inside and outside! Highly recommend it!
This is a good reminder of the Novi Sad's Jewish past. Now mostly a concert house.
