I've never ever been to a movie theater remotely as nice. It's like a wonderful secret amongst Oak Park residents!
Been going to the Lake my whole life and wouldn't think of going to another theatre. It is an icon of the neighborhood - great staff and you will always run in to someone you know!
I remember this theater being the neighborhood $1.00 show back in the mid 70's. It was a nice place to watch a movie then and it certainly is a nicer place now. This theater shows first run moviesConcessions stand prices are high, but most theaters are. Seats are also a bit close together.Great for families or a date night. JR
Just want to comment on how well run this theatre is. The management and staff understand that people come here to spend their money on seeing a film. The theatre is always quiet once the film starts and bad behavior is not tolerated. This is unfortunately unusual these days and greatly appreciated. Support this community landmark.
A very comfy and conveniently located cinema in the heart of Oak Park. Depending on what's showing you will either love it or loathe it! Saw the Lion King there with my granddaughter.
Every first Tuesday of the month, there is a one day noon or 7 pm showing of a top rated film. This month . it is Tim's Vermeer on July 1st I have been waiting all year to see this highly rated and reviewed film. If you miss it this time, don't know when the next opportunity to see it on the big screen in a nice cool setting will present itself.
Coming from South Florida where everything is new the Lake Theater was a awesome find. It was built in I believe 1936 or 37 and really has that old matinee feel. I can only imagine how many generations have seen all the wonders of the silver screen from the last almost 80 years. The one thing that gets me every time is the statues they have in the theaters that over look the audience with a slight glow from upward facing lights. The staff is friendly....can be a little pushy when they are cleaning the theater. It is super cheap compared to 10 to 12 a person in Ft Lauderdale and the concession is not too bad either.
A great theatre. Usually have decent movie selection, several lesser interest as well as blockbusters. Staff is super helpful and polite. Theatre is clean. Never a problem with rowdy behaviors. A center for Oak Park and all the surrounding suburbs and neighborhoods. Alternative to gaudy movie houses and expensive parking downtown.
The owners have upgraded the theatre over the years, and they show the best movies available, sometimes first run. They give free refills on drinks and popcorn, after you finish your first serving. Parking nearby, along with a lot of restauants on Lake Street, Marion, and Oak Park Avenues.
Liked everything about the place except the distance you had to travel to get to the concession stand. They had one set up on our end of the theater but was not open at the time.
