We skied for a day in Nebelhorn. We already skied in Copper Mountain (Colorado), Taos (New Mexico) and Arosa (Switzerland). The landscape from Nebelhord is amazing and the Nebelhornbahn (sections I and II) and the Nebelhorn Gipfelstation lifts work really well and with excellent capacity. One can go to the top of the mountain and back with or without skis. We found the offer of restaurants at different parts of the mountain very good. We found the beginners area (Seealpe "schlepplift", trail 7) excellent for practicing and not so full of people, since the mountain is overall for more experienced skiers. But we saw some "near accident" with the lift, which should have been better watched by people from the ski resort (someone should be ready to stop the lift, which did not happen when it should). We also found the "Vierersessel Koblat" (which lead to blue trail 2) very dangerous, for such short and uninteresting trail (trail 2). The end of the lift is a steep ramp, which seems to me very badly designed and prone to accidents. We took the lift 2 times and did not go back. We also find that there is a lack of education of the skiers. There is a large number of "bad" skiers who do not take the proper distance and do not watch for the people in front. I was run over once. There are no signs educating skiers that they should be always in control and pay attention to the skiers downhill, who have the "right of way". I would go back for the views and the walking trails, and I would recommend the beginners area. But given the bad design of some of the the lifts and the danger from other skiers, I did not feel safe skiing there.
You can go to the highest point (2224m) by the bahn, and use their restaurant and come down (1500m) and then walk down on foot to Oberstdorf (about 1 hour). For us it was very nice walk throuth the forest, then near Erdinger Arena.
We had a guest card and could use this cable car as many times as we wanted. Seen the numerous hiking trails starting from any of the three mountain stations, this is definitely and excellent investment!
If you have the time I would highly recommend a visit to the top of the Nebelhorn. You have to take 3 cable cars to reach the top but once you get there the view is amazing.Price to go to the top is 30.50 euros
We took the several cable cars to the top of the mountain, each one getting slightly smaller than the previous which was fun. As we were newbies to skiing we went for the experience of being right at the top of the mountain and it was a great experience indeed. The view was phenomenal even on a slightly cloudy day. I know we are at the edge of the Alps and that the mountains are much bigger in France or Austria but goodness me the views were a still spectacular. There was a cafe at the top which was great, having a little beverage whilst enjoying the view.
Reasonable prices and quality skiing one of several areas in the region you must visit! Perfect even if you just want a ride to the top with a great selection of Cafe's throughout!
Meal was ok as we weren't very hungry, we only had soup and bread for lunch, but what we had was nice. The atmosphere was pretty good considering the type of restaurant it was. There was a nicer looking restaurant there also.
If you are the first time take tickets till the top. The price is smth. about 30€ and worth it. On the third and last stop place (Nebelhorn 2224) you may see the most dramatic and the most expressive views even in summer. On the middle station (Stat. Höfatsblick 1932) there are also nice views. Over there I have made pictures of many alpine flowers. Fly zone activities can also be seen in this station. For hiking you need good shoes. If you stay for a long time and if you want hiking every day there are very good ticket offers for cable car for one week and for two weeks.
Getting up with the Nebelhornbahn to the Höfatsstation or to the Gipfelstation (peak at 2227m altitude) is more than fun. It is a great experience with alpine feeling. On the summit you'll have a wonderful view over more than hundreds of peaks of the alps. You can also watch the numerous paragliders starting here. The restaurant offers a good selection of food, and there's a free wifi available. At the Höfatsstation you can go hiking or visit the Edmund-Probst-Haus (DAV lodge) nearby. There is also a nice playground for kids nearby, and the Marktrestaurant is a great place for having lunch or a coffee break.
A fantastic experience to go to the top of the Nebelhorn 3 cable car journeys are required to get to the top. The views are spectacular and if you do not have the cable cars included. Your holiday rental it is worth spending out the money to see it. This is my favourite attraction in Oberstdorf, although everything in And around Oberstdorf is worth exploring!
