I've been to a few racetracks over the years, but don't go regularly. This was my first visit to Monmouth. It's a nice park, pretty reasonable landscaping and picnic area, and enough betting windows staffed to keep things moving. Standard track displays. This park has a bit more for the kids than most, with a separate playground area and mini golf. It was actually pretty family friendly. The picnic area also allows BYOB, and there are several picnic sections along the track you can reserve if you have a group. One thing worth considering is the train. Monmouth Park has its own train stop on the North Jersey Coast Line, and with the train ticket you can get a package that includes admission and program almost for free. Saved me time and money, and I avoided the driving and summer shore traffic. I took the train from Woodbridge (parking is free and plentiful on the weekend) and it worked out great. It does take about 10 minutes to walk from the station to the grandstand, but the station is close to the picnic area.
We spent the day at Monmouth park and enjoyed it very much. We brought our own lunch and ate at a picnic bench. If you want to buy food it was available.
We are not gamblers, but this was fun. Spent a little gambling, ate at the terrace dining room and enjoyed the day.
Come early. Find your spot; and you will have a great time. It will be doubled it you win!! We did not but still had a great time.
This is not your typical racetrack. It has history, is beautifully landscaped with picnic areas and shiny colorful Thoroughbred horses parading around the Paddock area before each race. Fans who like the gambling aspect will enjoy the quality of the Bloodstock! Entertaining on a lot of levels.....:-)
We visited here on a Friday afternoon in July and it was a fun day! We packed our own picnic and drinks (note: you can bring beer and wine) and got a table in the picnic area near some friends. There is a covered picnic area (totally under an overhang) and an uncovered area (with some tables having umbrellas in this area, and right off of the track). We had our kids with us, ages 19,16, and 13 and they enjoyed the day too. We saw the horses up close before each race and then we bet our small wagers, and watched the horses run. It was a very relaxing day. There is also a mini golf course for fun.
Great place! Been visiting for years. Even if you don't gamble, you can still have a great time.Bring your own food and drink or buy there. Every weekend there is something different going on. This weekend was the crab cake cookoff, lots of great food to try. You can park for free, pay $3 to get in, and enjoy the whole day just hanging out, watching the horses, walking around, whatever you like. Young children will enjoy the day too, see the horses in the paddock, cheering along with the crowd. Its a great time.
It's a great family place to gather, plus the variety of spots to view the races or picnic or watch from stands. Plenty of options for everyone.. Plus fun minature golf course and special eventsOur family has come here for many many years. We never miss a Haskell !! We all love Monmouth racetrack !! The horses are beautiful , as is the track and surround grounds.
have been to Monmouth Park before and think it a lovely track. The dining area is nice and the foot tasty but the maitre,d has to go - somewhat absent and a little un-gracious.
Living locally, we visit 3 to 4 times during the summer months. It basically has something for everyone, horse racing for the adults and face painting and miniature golf for families. Bring a cooler of snacks, wine and beer to cut down on costs. On the weekend they promote family day and have a variety of activities and themed events. Fun day and an alternative to the nearby beach.
