This is a step back to the old west days and worth the time to visit. There is an old west saloon that serves pretty good food & cold beer at fair prices. It is located on highway 30 about 4 blocks west of Spruce (main) street.
After checking into our hotel we asked where we could get a good steak and were directed to front street, what a lovely surprise, we were expecting a steak house but got a whole street of interesting shops and galleries. The saloon bar turned out to be a very good restaurant at competitive prices, our one regret was that we were too early in the week to see the entertainment laid on by the front street staff.
Not over done like Dodge City. Nice little stores. Easy to get to and get away from the freeway hussle.
They always are complaining about business however they did not open until 8 for breakfast, after everyone has been to work. Now they just decide one day to open at 10. Yet there sign up front clearly says "breakfast open 8am." Totally a shame was great food but no business sence.
My family stopped here on vacation and loved it! My dad was even pulled on stage and used in the show! Afterwards we went to the restaurant to eat and it was just a fun evening while on vacation.
For a small town Ogallala has some interesting shops and art galleries. Don't judge the shops by the outside. Venture inside some of them and you won't be disappointed.
I have eaten here alone several times on business. Service is always quite slow but it's kind of a neat place. Travelling through we called a few hours in advance to make reservations to the nights show. Everything was set, we left them our Email and phone number. When we arrive 15 minutes early, we are told they have no record of our reservation and there was no roon to eat in the bar/theater, so we were sent into the restaurant, then they would move us into the theater. Well it took over an hour to get our meals and by that time it was too late to be moved into the theatre. Service was unfriendly and quite frankly dishonest.
The food was OK for a steakhouse. My wife was trying to decide on 2 side dishes to go with her steak. She asked the server how the mashed potatoes were and was told they were very good. She was more than disappointed to find they were actually instant mashed potatoes.
If you like old fashion humour, singing and dancing, then head here for a fun night out. The review has been performed for the past 40 years, which dates some of it, if you come with a good attitude you'll have lots of fun. Leave the cynics outside!
This was a very neat attraction, I especially liked the old bar saloon style restaurant inside, had a drink as I looked around at the other neat areas. Great pic opportunities for little ones inside:)
