Wonderful flavor of an old refurbished theater. I am not suer of how this place operates but know that volunteers and donations are needed to keep the old theaters in the area open so as to continue serving the local public in style. The renovations are much appreciated. The popcorn is fresh. There are some very small auditoriums as well as the really big old grand cinema so if you are picky about how close you want to be to the screen, inquire before buying tickets about the size of the theater your movie is in. Parking in the garage under the theater.
Historic art deco theatre and iconic symbol of Orinda in downtown. The only cost to get in is the price of a movie ticket, but a film you want to see is playing there, it's a treat to see it in this beautiful old theatre.
This is a landmark theater. It is in a very safe location with easy parking. Clean and friendly. Sometimes the sound is too loud for me, but others disagree.
Tired of squeezing into one of those modern 18 cracker box cineplex theaters? Take a step back into the 1960s and luxuriate in a large old fashioned neighborhood art deco treasure (skip the side theaters unless you crave a cineplex experience). For a special treat, keep an eye out for their special showing of classic films.
Cant beat the classic art deco theater for a movie experience.Lots of room in the big auditorium. Friendly staff.
There are 3 screens in the Theater, with the main screen well decorated in an Art Deco style. The other two screens are smaller, with the third screen quite small but it is a good place to go if it is a rainy Sunday afternoon. All three really depend a lot on what is actually showing. The theater is part of a larger complex with some good places to eat in the immediate area. Next door to the theater is a gyro place which has other Greek/Arabic food. Across the street is an excellent Italian place and around the back in the overall complex there is a good Mexican restaurant. Plenty of parking in lot below. it is a good place to go if you want to see what is playing.
This is a great theatre. Beer and wine were served in the lobby. Great murals on the wall and the big old velvet curtains over a stage before they start the movie, but modern movie magic happens here.
The big old grand Orinda theater with the big screen and comfortable chairs that you can stretch out is worth pulling yourself away from the comforts of your own home & TV.
Tuesdays are 'Super Tuesdays' in Orinda at the movie theater. You can see a first run movie for $7.00. If you go during the day - there are usually very few people and you will enjoy the sound quality, the quiet and the comfort. It is a gloriously restored art deco movie house that shows first run movies. There are 3 theaters in the building - small, medium and large. If you are a fan of art deco - you will want them to turn on the lights so you can see all the deco details in the lobby, restrooms and in the large screening room as well as the Egyptian Revival paintings and wall carvings in the 2 smaller screening rooms. Each theater has wonderful murals on the walls. Very WPA-ish. As it was a slow day when we were there, we were lucky enough to get a tour and some chit chat. Loved it! Also - you can buy a annual subscription to the movie house. If you are an avid movie goer - for $150/year you can go every Tuesday and also attend the Movie Festival later in the year for no additional charge. I will become a regular - schedule permitting. This is a venue worth supporting. I even made a small charitable donation and even signed-up for their email list. Can't believe I've lived on this side of tunnel for 7 years and had never been here. BTW - the theater will validate parking for up to 3 hours in the well-lighted, surveillance camera equipped, clean underground garage. There is also on-street parking and lots of small tasty places to eat in the neighborhood. Downtown Orinda really has been revitalized since I first moved out here and it is very enjoyable. You don't have to go to Walnut Creek to have a fun time.
Nice art deco theater that shows current films and international films monthly. Only downside is that one of the 3 theaters is VERY small. Can't recomend seeing films on this screen. Call ahead to see what film is playing where.
