Went to see the MC Escher exibit as well as walk around to see the other exhibits. There were not many visitors and perhaps it is because of the overt security. In every room I visited there was at least one guard and they seemed to focus on me and followed me as I moved around. Very uncomfortable and difficult to enjoy the art.
This gallery is dedicated to just canadian artists some of which are not heard of outside Canada, very interesting. Being in building itself is very good.
NAG is a jewel as a visual arts museum of international stature. One of the greatest accessible collections of art from the Middle Ages to contemporary art providing Canadians and all visitors with a sense of identity and pride in Canada's rich visual arts heritage. The pace is slow and the environment is superb. Take the time to relish and enjoy.
The Gallery art collection is very good, but the special exhibits are usually wonderful. The gift shop is a great place to find unique Christmas presents.
The National Gallery is a must see for visitors to Ottawa. The architecture is notable and the exhibits of Canadian artists are the most comprehensive that you will find.Special exhibits are worth noting, but often depend on taste.
If you are in Ottawa's beautiful capital capital of Canada, give to your sense the experience and be surprise with exhibitions as The Canadian Bienal 2014 or the Tom Thomson true colors of Canadian winter, and more. A Must to see and enjoy
Wish they had kept the full service restaurant in the Great Hall BUT the food in the cafeteria is fresh & nicely served & displayed.Credit cards are accepted .I always enjoy taking my grandson for a wholesome snack .
加拿大国家美术馆坐落在渥太华市中心,是北美比较著名的艺术馆,里面有很多世界著名的艺术展品。门票9加元,进去需要存包,大衣也要存,免费。非常值得一看。
I believe museums are extremely social things to do. People mill around, visit, talk, discuss, that being said when I view art it is something I like to do alone. Either way as family or alone(with the wonderful head set rental to hear the history and story of the pieces and artist), seeing this kind of beauty and time and effort it amazing. Special exhibits, aboriginal specials, art rooms and sculptures, it is something to see and a must when visiting the capital to art lovers and beginners alike.
This gallery is truly 'national' in that it contains by far the best existing selection of uniquely Canadian paintings and sculptures. Central to this is a strong selection of works from the Group of Seven School together with an outstanding Aboriginal Art Collection. The European Collection is impressive for a medium sized North American gallery and has a significant selection of representative works of outstanding painters from the Baroque era plus 19th and 20th French and British paintings. The building is also a unique attraction in itself. Entrance fees are not excessive and are waived on Thursdays from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M.. A Special Exhibit on either a great European painter or an original theme is scheduled for each summer season and these are definitley value-added.
