In this place you will find a spirit of Padova. Before you will start visiting historical center of Padova it is good to read little about it:) Then you will be much moore satysfied while exploring Padova.
Its the same place , but it offers so many different things depending on the time of the day. In the morning there are the markets , then when they shut up and move out the tables and chairs come out onto the square.People take apparetivos in the evening time while they eat crisps . The gypsy musicians sing songs badly then pass a hat around .Its beautiful in the spring weather like now. The light is wonderful and the people interesting to observe. You don't need to go for any special occasion , just as long as you go. Lots of dogs passing by , old people comfortable in the surroundings greeting friends. Students all interestingly dressed sipping big orange drinks known here as Aperol Spritz.
During the day it is great place to be to shop the surrounding business's. At night - have dinner in a wonderful café and then take a passagio around the square as you feast on the best Italian gelato ever!!
loads of cafes on this square, crowded with students (it's a univeristy town) with numerous Gelaterias including at least two eco-friendly ones and a large astronomical clock on one of the towers.
There was a third class organic market in the Piazza when we visited on Sunday. So it was not possible to enjoy its natural beauty.
A beautiful square jammed with hungry tourists in the evening. Get there by 8 p.m. for a good table.
The clock in this square is one of the world's oldest, showing 24 hour time and via a rotating edge also the current sign of the zodiac. The edge plate only has 11 signs (scorpio uses double space), either because the builder used Egyptian astrology or because the city ran out of money and the builder took his revenge! The square is very attractive and busy, and is set with tables in the evening for temporary bars to ply their trade.
In the summertime it is very nice to go for a late night drink here in the great piazza among the dozens of tables with hundreds and thousands of young people just chatting about. But don't come here for the food - it's nothing to write about and most places don't even serve it. Grab something to eat somewhere else and come here around 22:00 for a night cap.
The clock and architecture are interesting, but certainly not unique. There are many more interesting places in town. Yet, this and many other lesser attractions combine to make Padua worth a visit.
This is a place you can not miss while visiting Padua, but make sure you do it by having dinner while having an outdoor dinner seating under the stars with the vibrant ambiance and delicious Italian food in the piazza itself!
