An amazingly beautiful spot I would recommend visiting on a Sunday or at night, as otherwise there is often a market set up inside numerous vans (hence not the pretty market kind). That's the only reason I gave it four stars, it really is a shame to use such a beautiful place for such cheap purposes. Otherwise stunning architecture you would not expect to see in such a little town.
This is a great place for a stroll at any time and if you are lucky you might find a regional food market which sells the most delicious produce. Definitely try the lamb kebabs, cheese and salami from Abruzzo - we bought some amazing Grana Padano - just wish I bought more and made a note of where it was from! All the stall holders are keen to let you try before you buy - just enjoy!
Beautiful big square (oval!). Grand buildings and some good cafes, but not all so choose carefully! Decorated in winter & looks amazing at night. Close to lots of historical sites & definitely worth a visit. Tram stops at the north & South ends and plenty of seating. Market on Saturday and some stalls at Christmas.
Prato della Valle is without any doubt not only one of the largest squares in Europe, but also one of the most beautiful ones in the world. The night vision is unforgettable.
90,000 square meter elliptical square...surrounded by 78 statues (the plan was for 88) is really a large space for the people to walk and sit around. But even on a sunny Sunday, not to many, but a lot on market day, when you can't see anything of the place.Started in 1635, and taking over in 1775 by Andrea Memmo, the patrician Venetian known as the provider of Padova (he has his own statue), the place change over and over, was almost in a time abandon and put back up as it is today.Ask around, at least to see it when there is no market
Go here for markets, and enjoy an aperitivo (Spritz Aperol, anyone?) in one of the many bars. A bit dead at night time, though.
Half of the area was covered with netting and cement structures, as some sort of revonation was going on.
One of the most stunning plazas I have been to. Most days they have little markets there where you can buy gifts and fruit ... be warned when it is hot weather it can get busy and on January 6th they also have the burning of the witch.. This also means a lot of traffic around. All in all this is an amazing place and some beautiful church's ... This has got to be a must see on your list of travels if you come here
My wife was most intrigued by this huge park; I was less so. Still, it is a very nice space for residents yearning (sort of) for a lake and river. For tourists and travelers it has a monumental feel with its white statues and bridges. Some reviewers complained about the restoration and repairs. What should Padua do? Let it decay? Repair it at night?
A few minutes' walk from the center of this most interesting city, this piazza is quite different with its lawns surrounded by a moat. Well worth a visit!
