One of the best Renaissanche theatres in the world: benne there may times but I am always astonished.
This theater is worth the trip to Parma all by itself. It is hard to believe that such a find is somehow shoehorned into the palace, but the effect is striking. We intend to make a trip back to see some type of show so we can fully appreciate it. The ticket gets you into the national museum as well.
Used for athletic competition originally. Almost totally destroyed in ww1. Steep seating that is restricted area.
This is one site absolutely not to be missed. Imagine an indoor theater modeled vaguely after the Colosseum with ranks of seats, galleried arcades, and a magnificent stage. Now imagine the entire thing is built of wood! It is just stunning and aan incredible engineering feat. I took tons of photos but none of them can do it justice; it's just something you literally need to see to believe.
It is a fascinating theatre that has been restored. A ticket provides entry to the theatre and the National gallery that contains some Correggios and a da Vinci drawing.
Very impressive - unfortunately, most areas were cordoned off and the most interesting details such as the wooden seats/pews or the frescoes (?)/paintings around the top gallery were inaccessible.
For just a mere 3 euro (if you enter after 2pm) you can visit both the Teatro Farnese and the National Galley. This wooden theatre is beautifully designed! It has been reconstructed after it was damaged with bombings. Passing through the underpass of the theatre one enters the national gallery which is full of ancient statues and famous paintings. Not to be missed!
Amazing design and reconctruction, all in timber! Can only I agibe what it wiukd have been like in tbe audience and probably fall short of what it must have like.
Not to be missed if you are in Parma! A beautiful old wooden theatre that was renovated after it was almost completely destroyed during WW2.
If you only visit one place in Parme, then it must be the theatre. The theatre is an absolute work of art and totally breathtaking and will leave you dreaming of seeing a performance there
