Spent a quiet morning visiting this peaceful monastery. Great views over Pafos. Worth remembering that should you how in law season the Cafe is unlikely to be open.
We went here as part of the George's Fun Bus trip, and on a coolish day, the sun came out and in the shelter of the valley the monastery is situated in, it was very pleasant.
Closed during the winter months.. However during the Summer it is bustling with tourists from around the world due to the fact that the monastery is in close proximity. Restaurant serves a great variety of international and local dishes..
This is a wonderful historic site to visit. The church, and caves are fascinating, and the museum holds interesting artefacts. However it was the grounds and the delightful views that did it for me. The feeling of tranquillity, just sitting overlooking the monks' gardens below is so peaceful. This is really worth a visit.
beautiful peaceful monastery set in pines trees. Worth a morning's visit. Museum and church joint entry ticket at 2 euros
The journey is a relatively slow ride so an air conditioned car is advisable. but the Monastery certainly makes up for the time taken getting there.
It is beautiful here and very peaceful. Never been to a monastery before and despite not being religious at all can understand the lure. Apart from the workman on his mobile phone and one very loud monk it was very tranquil here and the views are amazing. Don't get too excited by the cave church, the paintings are incredible though somewhat damaged but it's rather small. The church is beautiful and the museum is fascinating though. The drive takes you up into the mountains and all in all it's well worth a visit.
find this a perfect place in the heat of summer to escape the crowds if i need a quiet hour or two. Beautiful setting, very relaxing and good history too. Nice to sit in the excellent tea room after in the shade and just chill
Saint Neophytos founded the monastery in 1159 he died in 1219 at the age of 85.The main church was built about 200 years later and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The monastery is a beautiful place to visit - so peaceful in among the Cyprus trees. There are exceptional icons in the church, also the museum and of course, the famous cave.In winter the monastery closes at 4.00pm and the café is not open. There are places to sit outside and enjoy the afternoon sunshine and admire the views.A quiet oasis away from busy Paphos.
Quiet place. No wonder why Ayios Neophytos has chosen this placeThis is the place for christian orthodox to visit and not only Christians but anybody, no matter what religion believes.
