Most of the art is more traditional, centering about the 1800's or so. I enjoyed it very much. The building is a beautiful space in it's own right and houses the art very well. One huge bonus is that this museum is open on Mondays when many other tourist sites are closed.
Everything. The collection is diversified representing many aspects of Puertorrican art forms as well as European classics. The building is beautiful, admission reasonable, docent a friendly & all speak English. The write ups & tours are multilingual. 4 hours just doesn't do it justice. We were lucky enough to see the Jack Delano hundred years of photographing Puertorrican workers, it is short of magnificent. Of course my favorite painting was of the monks painted by Diego Velasquez. Everyone was also quite take by the Flaming June a lovely work & a must see. Treat yourself to a whole day. It is worst it & it has a great coffee shop. Extra time visit the great art shop.
I did the free escorted tour it was great! I liked it it reopened in 2010 and I find it to be much bigger and many more paintings:)
beyond my expectations. A must see! I am not a frequent visitor of fine art on my vacations but I agreed to go with my wife ,I was wowed !
The museum is beautiful - truly stunning; the docents knowledgeable and passionate about the art; admission is inexpensive. There is a small parking lot beside the museum and also "on street" parking in front and behind the museum. And there is a gift shop, snack shop and a restaurant. The staff is very friendly. They love the museum and seem delighted that you are visiting. They are never rushing, but take a sincere interest in museum visitors. There is a caring atmosphere. Our docent, Edwin Cortiz, was perhaps the best docent we have ever toured with. We learned so much. This will be one of many trips to the Museo de Arte de Ponce.
I am not much on art, so this was more for the wife, but I still enjoyed it. Very nice place and helpful people around this museum. It looked like rain so we went and paid admission, which was well worth it. Nice place
Wonderful collection well presented. A nice change from the busy city center. The collections are well presented.
I remember the 1st time I visited this place as a child I was mesmerized by the quality of paintings I saw. Years later I visited the museum again, and was again taken aback by so much art, colors, history... They even had a vegigante mask exposition.
Can also be overwhelming. Not a lot of world class art, but a wide variety of very good art. If you get a chance to do the free escorted tour, it is well worth it. Nice history of Museum and description of acquisition of some of their highlights. Best barrista thus best coffee in town!
Simply loved it. It is wonderful to see all the effort and hard work has been put into the museum in Ponce.
