We spent a beautiful afternoon at Discovery Harbour on the weekend. The historical interpreters did a wonderful job educating us on the different buildings and knew many interesting facts pertaining to the time period. We were very impressed with the period costumes and the site itself is very picturesque on the shores of Georgian Bay. The staff engaged our children and let them try out various games, sit in a hammock and make model boats. We will definitely recommend this to family and friends as an attraction not to be missed!
We love going to historical places across Ontario. The Discovery Harbour is an interesting place to visit, with tall ships to see (kids played seek'n'hide and washed the deck)There's a workshop available where kids build their own ships as well
Well laid out with excellent written data and interested guides. Not expensive at $7 each. Easy to park and easy to walk the area.
What a fabulous experience we had at Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene. Our tour guide Emily was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the history of the site. She had a large tour group and was very good with the children. There were a few hands on activities that we could do and the kids loved the games and working with the wood tools. It is a beautiful spot overlooking Penetanguishene Bay. The site is well laid out, there is a lot of walking but well worth the walk. The other interpretive staff were also very knowledgeable. We would go back again.
Great exhibit, History lesson for all ages. Great activities for all ages.my three year old loved the boat making and ship exploring and I loved exploring the history of the ships and seeing the replicas and originals in all a great experience for the whole family
This is an annual event for us. The kids like the hands on experience and enjoy the in character guides that explain what it was like to live in that part of the world before modern conveniences. Lots of walking so where comfortable shoes and clothing.
Beautiful views. Docks for boaters. Clean restaurant. Excellent entertainment at the King's Wharf Theatre. Buskers and a mini market would be a great addition to the space.
We went Aug 2014 with my 4 year old daughter. It is great! There are 2 tall ships to explore, buildings with activities for kids, beautiful view to the bay as well as an important piece of Canadian history.Just note that it is 1 km long to get all the way to the end.
We found the buildings very interesting, the costumed personnel well informed and friendly and the setting lovely. Life may have been tough in those days but they sure had a pleasant view when they got up in the morning. One member of our party uses a walker and we were offered the use of an electric scooter which made his visit much more pleasant. We didn't have children with us so we didn't go to the children's discovery area, but we did see the results of one family - sweet wooden boats. All in all a worthwhile visit
