We have had several of their wonderful wines before at their tasting room in Leavenworth but this was our first time visiting the winery. A short drive off HWY 2 but easy to find by following the signs. A small fee for the tasting sampler but it is waived upon purchase. They had about 10 or so wines still available since some had sold out already (Check out their wine club to secure your next order). The Passion (Cherry/Chocolate desert wine) and the 2012 Riesling were our favorites but picked up some 2012 white merlot and a holiday Meritage. Great family run business with most of the staff related to the owners. Friendly and knowledgeable, helpful without being pushy, and always a smile on their faces. They do serve some light food to go along with the tasting if you wish. The house that the tasting room is in was simply AMAZING! We spent our first 20 minutes there just enjoying the craftsmanship that went into building the place. One of the daughters was very please to share everything about how the place was built from local logs, the massive multi-story rock fireplace, the carvings, animal mounts, period correct décor, and all the history surrounding the entire place. Even the kitchen area has been furnished as it was 75 years ago, but with modern touches. By far our favorite winery we have visited over the years.
A must do when going to Leavenworth. A magnificent venue with a great team of staff that are not only courteous, they are also knowledgable about their product. Don produces a wonderful range of wines. We actually had the opportunity to have a tour with Don of the wine making facility...small, yet highly productive. Make sure you have a designated driver when you visit!
Icicle Ridge Winery's most famous wine must be their Blondes Gewurztraminer. It doesn't disappoint. I highly recommend you try it, you be hooked. They wine tasting room/cabin is well done and they have concerts/events there throughout the year. Good place to stop in at if you're ever in the Leavenworth area.
The tasting room on Front St offered 5 wine tastes for only $10 and provided scrumptious cheese and crackers. The wine was only "okay" but the service really let them down. The young woman knew nothing about wine and was pre-occupied on her cellphone a lot, so service was slow. It is a beautiful modern bar with comfortable outdoor section, so it had great potential.
Beautiful location, great wines. We love it here, they always make us feel so welcome and the wines are terrific.
My wife and I enjoy visiting wineries and tasting rooms in the areas we visit. This is one of our best finds. You walk in to a casual, family-feeling log house and are invited to sit down at long wooden tables for your wine tasting.Their wines are great and it is a great place to linger and enjoy.
we stumbled in to the Leavenworth tasting room and loved the story of the family (and the quality of the wine) so much we made a quick road trip over to the winery the next day. Now we're hooked on their Romanze wine (perfect for honeymooners, huh)!
Stopping at Icicle Ridge Winery is a special experience. The tasting room is the a log home built by Louis Wagner as their home and then converted into the tasting room. The decor is definitely Northwest. The wines are tasty (but I'm not much of an authority on that). Every summer they have a few evenings of music and food that make it a very special evening - highly recommend checking that schedule and being there for a evening of jazz.
The wines are excellent. The staff friendly and knowledgeable. There is food available. Now that that is out of the way -- take a look at the building!! If you ever dreamed of building or living in a 'log cabin' type building - you have to see this one. From the massive logs, produced in the local mountains, to the arched doorways to the massive fireplace and the professional kitchen -- this building will amaze. Wander around and look at the quality in the facility. You might forget that you came to taste the wines -- with are excellent. We will return - if for no other reason than to see what we missed on the first trip.
We tasted three reds (we split a flight, $14: full, even generous pours...splitting it was wise), and all met with our approval. A bottle of the Meritage joined us for the trip home. The staff was so pleasant and sitting on the deck of the fabulous log cabin was so relaxing...a great start to our visit to Leavenworth (this is about 5 minutes from downtown Leavenworth, if that). I would return.
