Even though there was no guide, we really enjoyed the visit to the castle. It is well kept, very clean, a lot of things to see inside including mannequins with costumes of the era, armory, etc. The view from the castle is breathtaking! Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact amount we paid to get in but it was only a couple of Euros. Must see!
Incredible story in the small town of Pizzo. Lovely views of the sea and the town from the castle. Anna from dolcevitapizzo will guide you throughout the tour with all the history of the castle.
the castle itseld is ok, but the view from there is great, and it is very cheap to get in, so I would suggest it :)a bit of history always help
E sempre bello fare un tuffo nella storia inoltre è molto ben tenuto e conservato .I responsabili sono molto gentili .per chi ama la storia e l arte sarà sicuramente una bella visita
On a recent trip to Pizzo we paid a visit to castle Murat. We were surprised that even though this was August there was no guide present. This attraction would be greatly enhanced if there were guided tours available.
We timed it right and were eating at the nearby restaurant when they re-enacted the shooting execution of Murat. We knew the story of this unfortunate Napoleon relative whose attempt to raise a crowd to free him ... backfired. We were just telling the tale to our nipote Karl and his wife Jayme when re-enactors marched him out and shot him down yards fro where we were eating a great seafood lunch!
Somewhat touristy with the dressed up mannikins but an interesting story to it's history. Anne, from dolcevitapizzo.com.uk gave a fascinating guided tour.
Situated high above the coast at Pizzo this castle gives a fascinating account of the last days of Murat, Napoleon Bonaparte's brother-in-law. Life size figures in the cells show the captivity of Murat and his soldiers. Explanations are only in Italian. Armoury, costumes and letters add to a very interesting and well laid out collection. The view from the battlements is breathtaking.
Nominal entry fee, liked. Great to wander around freely, liked. No information in English though, disliked.
Save this until it's the last thing you see. While it does give a history of the Murat fortress, it's rather more interesting from the outside than inside.
