The museum was nothing special but the 24 or so wall murals throughout the downtown area are fantastic. Well worth seeing.
The wall murals in Pontiac are very impressive. This town has really done a lot in the past couple of years to market itself. The murals scattered throughout the town are awesome!
We stopped in to show our boys the museums that Pontiac has to offer. This place is interesting and free. My favorites parts of the museum are learning about the dresses that show there color under black light and gold leaves. The museums are open on summer weekends and the volunteers are so great! The trolley tour is a must to learn of the murals!
This town is a must stop if your doing the whole Route 66 like we did.. They have sooooo many interesting things to do and see, and this museum is one of them! For such a small little building there are heaps of cool stuff in here! The lady who was there that day was more than happy to walk us around and tell us about the history of the walldog museum and the history of the other various art pieces in here! Very interesting place!
Docent was entertaining. Be sure to ask to see the dresses in the room with the black lights. Very unusual.
The two most interesting features in this museum are the black-lit dresses and a display on how gold leaf gilding is done. There's surprisingly little information on the murals done by the "wall dogs". By all means see the museum (which is free, though donations are appreciated), but be sure to spend time looking at the actual murals throughout the downtown area. The cell phone tour is a particularly good way to find out about all of them.
Staff were very friendly and we learnt so much about the museum and signage. How they used to be done by hand, it was very interesting and showed the skill involved. Well worth a stop off and a look round.
This place was interesting, however, the trolley tour was GREAT! As part of the Red Carpet Corridor event, the city operated a trolley at no cost with an excellent guide, named Mike, who gave interesting background facts about the murals all around Pontiac. These are a MUST SEE!!
This is a small museum but worth the stop. Next to the car museum in downtown Pontiac. Pontiac has many of the Wall Dog group murals on the downtown area walls. There are pictures of them in the museum, but they are awesome to see up close. They are huge murals and so very well done. My favorite set of them is in an alley next to the war museum and Rt. 66 museum. They are so life like. One of them has a door opening that you would think you could walk right in to. There is a place under the big Route 66 mural where you can take a picture of your car in front of it. I love the murals. It makes Pontiac so special. Well worth the trip to the whole town.
