Although there is a sidewalk, the potentates in charge have decried that you can't use it to cross from Sarnia to Port Huron. Instead you have to go 36 miles out of your way and take a ferry at Sombra. 'Planning a bicycle trip from upstate NY to central Michigan. This tips the balance towards taking the southern route though PA and Ohio. Sorry, Port Colborne, Port Dover & Port Stanley I'll be spending the $$ I would have spent there in Ohio instead. Way to go Blue Water Bridge Commission.
I live in the area, but still visit the bridges often.....Spring, Summer, Winter or Fall. It is always breathtaking and makes me feel blessed to enjoy this view whenever I wish. No, it's not an amusement park or video game......just beautiful scenery that never fails to impress. It's also a hot spot for pictures and freighter fanatics!
Great place to cross the border, great views of Lake Huron and Port Huron, MI other side is great views of Sarnia and Point Edward, ON.
There is a long park along the water under the bridge. It has a great bike path plenty of parking and lots of Benches to sit on.We saw 3 Freighters while sitting watching a para sailer go back and forth looking for a big wave.
I lived in Port Huron in the 1960's when there was only one bridge into Sarnia from Port Huron. It is beautiful and even more beautiful lit up at night.
I haven't seen the golden gate yet. I have seen most of the other landmark bridges tho and I can say blue water is super cool. Great heights in such a Shortspan with monstrous cargo ships passing underneath! Plus a spectacular view of Lake Huron!
we chose port huron instead of Detroit to cross into Canada. This was the fastest/friendliest border crossing ever---I wish I could count on this every time.
Blue Water Bridge is a necessity for us to come across the boarder between Canada & The U.S. The view is absolutely spectacular anytime of year & regardless of the weather. The view of Lake Huron & the St. Clair River make it a joy to cross even if there is a bit of a wait. When we don't want to get stuck in long lineups on the bridge we check the website. It has up-to-date wait times posted for each crossing exit.
The blue water bridge is so beautiful. Even just to stop off the aide of the road for a few picks. It was totally worth it.
Yes, OK, it's just a bridge, but, it is impressive. Located at the mouth of Lake Huron, this bridge is a gateway. The river walk and area are nice, and well lit. The area at night is safe, and lots to do and look at. Pack a lunch and watch the freighters go by. People are always fishing. A nice view of Canada also.
