Absolutely unique castle. Definitally a must in Slovenia! Outside and inside is trully amazing. I appreciated czech audio guide. Place was not crowded by tourists as other attarctions so we could enjoy everything.
Really worth a visit. This is such an unusual and pretty castle. it's hardly changed since 1500s... The audio tour is also very good - it's clear, the English is excellent, its easy to follow and the content is very good. I really enjoyed my visit and would recommend it to others.
Get the Audio guide... no really get it get it get it. It's only 2 euros, you can share it with another 1 or 2 people, the volume is good. Not much to read so you need it and it adds so much to the castle.Be aware it's 9km from the caves and no organised transport outside July and August. If you have a car, no problem.Anyway, the castle is unique, well intact and with the audio guide gives you great insight into life back in the day to a spectacular site (including the surrounding area). If you're doing the caves, add this on with a joint purchase ticket, well worth it, very beautiful.Staff are super friendly and helpful.
This castle is not far from the popular Postojna Caves and is much cooler. The staff at the castle are very informative with excellent english. The castle itself is very cool, built inside the cliff face it utilizes the cave system behind/above/below it and is generally an interesting piece of Slovenian history. The coolest part however is the cave system below. If you can pay for the tour, it's worth it! I went it with a claustrophobic sister who is also afriad of heights (the cave system is huge!) and she thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The caves are home to very small & very cute bats which you can see as you wander through. Due to the low number of tourists that visit this place (I went in June 2014) I would recomend this to anyone in the area.
That castle is truly an amazing creation and hard to imagine, until you see it for yourself. The interior is quite impresive, but the exterior is the one that drops your jaw. There is a very interesting anecdote about the knight Erazem, who owned the castle. I'm sure it will amuse you, when you hear it.
Picturesque from the outside and full of interesting displays/museum artifacts on the inside, a worthwhile place to visit. Can also go into the cave itself, but was not recommended for younger children. To save money, purchase a combined ticket with Poston Czve, which is 10 minutes down the road.
Very interesting castle but extremely cold. Would recommend giving it a miss in very heavy snow as difficult to get out
We visited the castle after visiting the Postojna Caves and by this time we were quite tired, but we see all of the levels in this castle and the cave behind. There is breathtaking view from the top of the castle.
I've been to many castles of Europe, from Neuschwanstein Castle and Burg Eltz in Germany to Hohensalzburg Castle in Salzburg and Eilean Donan Castle in Scotland. Predjama is one of the top 5 in my book, the shear impressive site of a impressive and remarkably preserved castle built into a rock face with a small stream emptying water in the Postojna cave system can bring many "ahhhs".Not sure why people have petty complaints though, the bathroom was free when I visited. Not sure if the cave system and castle is overly priced as some say, if you're visiting a prosperous country such as Slovenia with many incredible sites then don't expect anything to be cheap. Go to Croatia or Bosnia if you're on a tight budget which are great visits themselves. Or just go visit Switzerland where a Big Mac burger meal cost around $15 then you can complain about prices being high lol Slovenians are very friendly and kind to English speakers. I've been to around 25 countries of Europe and Slovenia with it's incredible sites such as this castle, Postojna cave and the small village of Piran make this one memorable trip.
I have visited several times to take in the free view but on my last visit I paid the entrance fee to see the inside. The inside did not measure up the the free view on the outside. I would not make time to go inside but if you have time to burn or want to make a donation get a ticket to poke around inside.
