This is a mini nature preserve with well kept trails, and some wonderful views. Very helpful volunteers. From there one can go down about 160 steps to Madeiro Beach. Bring water. Accessible by public transportation.
Nice and well maintained trails allow you to walk through the wilderness. You need to go by car (ask if the road conditions permit driving down to the museum). The best part are the views down on the beaches and the excellent views for spotting dolphins and wild turtles.
This is an excellent park! We didn't know about this park until we arrived in Pipa. And what a pleasant surprise!! You have to pay R$10 (October/14) to enter the park and you can stay there the whole day. You can walk in the bushes, spot some sea turtles and dolphins! It is amazing to see them in their natural habitat. There are lots of view points that shows you Dolphins Bay and Madeiro Beach. From there, you can also visit Madeiro beach and return to the park for more walking/learning about sea turtles.Overall, an excellent park. We really enjoyed our day there!
This reserve is about a 30 minute walk (my husband and I walked there) from the center of Pipa, or a quick drive. This is a great activity choice for anyone who loves nature and physical activity. There are 15 different trails but none are very long so you can cover quite a lot of ground in an afternoon. I like that you don't need a guide to explore the reserve so you are able to explore at your own pace (unlike Parque das Dunas in Natal). The views are stunning and you can observe turtles and dolphins. My only complaint (and the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) is that the signs should be more informative. For example they have the pictures of the animals for which the trails are named after, but on the map it has the name and not the picture. So if you don't know the name of an animal it can be hard to follow the map. But overall I highly recommend!
It's worth the 10 bucks! Breathtaking views, lovely hike, good museum. I haven't seen dolphins but I've got to see lots of sea turtles and monkeys. By the end of the trail just enjoy the beach. Highly recommended!
We recently spent four days in Pipa. After a couple of days at the beach, we were up for something different. We spent a couple of hours at the Sanctuary which we greatly enjoyed. The walks are not difficult, and there are varying lengths of trails depending on how much you want to do. We saw one small monkey in the forested part, enjoyed the beautiful vistas, and saw the great sea turtles in the water below. There is a small, decent exhibit as well. As the area is well forested, it does not matter if you go in the heat of the day. Definitely a worthwhile excursion which gives a little diversity to a beach trip as well.
