A faire absolument !!!!....
It's a difficult one this. The idea of it is great. We went after some terrible weather for a week so understandably there were not many flowers - that I don't mind. What was sad though was that it wasn't kept very well. Many bushes needed cutting and weeds around we're quite bad. It is supposed to be divided up into different outdoor gardens but we were not given a map just a page with numbers and description. Unfortunately the corresponding numbers in the garden are not well posted so you're half way round before you know where you are. Maybe money is an issue so they don't have enough staff to man the gardens but the best roses in the place are the one's that are for sale in the shop. Shame - could be lovely but not up to scratch!
Don't miss this when in Provins. Tranquil, and a celebration of one of Provins' specialities.
If you can find the time, I especially recommend taking a peaceful break in the Roseraie de Provins with a glass of wine or a book. I don’t particularly care for roses but I was won over by the garden’s great design, expansive space, strategically placed lawn chairs, and general tranquility. What I most liked about the garden was its relaxing blend of the cultivated and the wild. Rose beds give way to forest paths and unexpected clearings. Small streams wind through the lawn. Try to go when the weather is nice and prepare yourself to relax. My boyfriend and I know pretty much nothing about roses but we had fun comparing all the different perfumes they gave off and looking at the bees. A highlight of our time in Provins.
Another beautiful spot in the city of Provins. Well worth visiting, also a lot of interesting activities during the year.
We visited La Roseraie as a family with three children (5, 7and 11) and my parents, and had a wonderful wander around the gardens for over an hour. There are winding paths that take you through lots of different kinds of garden, but all featuring fantastic collections of roses. We visited at the end of July, and clearly some had flowered earlier, but there were still plenty to see in full bloom. We were a little confused by the route- you are given a plan to follow, but when you are looking at the beautiful, peaceful gardens, who wants to be following a map? The children amused themselves exploring ahead on the paths, with the younger two looking out for fairies everywhere, and there was enough to keep them busy for the time we were there. The tea room was very pleasant, if a little pricey. What I did love was that there were deckchairs positioned all over the grounds - if my wife and I had been visiting on our own, it would have been wonderful to take a book and just relax in the gardens for a lot longer.
