Great mountain and lake views and well maintained greens. A little too narrow on some for me. Also difficult to walk, but has come a long way under the new owners. Good value.
This golf course has great views. We started off golfing as a family only to stop at the third hole due to a thunder storm. My husband returned to play the course and really enjoyed it. Having made other plans for next day, our teens and I missed out on the remaining holes. It was very warm the day my husband played. He enjoyed the refreshment cart that came around with cold drinks. The course had been busy but play was steady and at a good pace.
We did not golf here, but were told to take the drive up to see an amazing view of Lake George. The course is open to the public, and there is a restaurant and an inn. Worth the ten-minute drive from the village to see the view!
We played the Top of The World as part of a golf weekend with a group. The course is an old style course in good condition, not too challenging, but fair. The views & price are the amazing aspect of this course. Sitting atop of a small mountain overlooking lake George, you really take it all in. The staff was nice and very accommodating, which all in all, made for a fun day of golf.
If you're staying at Lake George Village and don't want to travel far for a round, Top of the World will fit the bill. Located atop a hill overlooking Lake George, the course itself has a nice layout with some wide open terrain complemented by some narrower tree-lined holes. As you might expect for a rural area, the course conditions aren't the best: tee boxes are full of long grass and weeds, fairways are cut high. The greens were passable, but we played at a time when they were aerating the front 9. Price is reasonable.
Lovely course on top of hill overlooking Lake George. Interesting holes, fair challenges. Course maintenance is appropriate, especially considering the rough winter they experienced. Quickly caught up with a foursome including family of the owners; had a nice short conversation (would have enjoyed a longer chat), nice folks, they let me play through. The reason this isn't a five star review is sloppy support. I rented clubs (for a reasonable $10). Didn't check them carefully, on arriving at first tee saw I had been given three nine irons, missing many others, also some clubs were short clubs for women and unsuable. Assortment of brands, most of them oldish, all of them uncleaned from the time they were used by the previous golfer. Exchanged two of the nine irons for other clubs. Let's say the set was adequate, barely. I usually walk a course, but took a cart so my wife could join. (She wasn't allowed to walk). Cart was dirty, with caked in dirt from years of service. Old, gasoline-powered carts (carts in principle are bad enough, but at least they should be electric). Not a single amenity like a couple of tees in the cart. Pity. Clubs and cart didn't spoil a pleasant morning, but ...
Rarely crowded, this could be one of Lake George's hidden secrets. Magnificent views from "top of the World" and a friendly staff. Some of the ares best greens. Don't plan to walk!
I had not played here for 4 or 5 years. The course has very nice views and pretty scenic holes. Ten is the winner! the back 9 other wise is fairly bland. A few things I discovered: First the cards and t boxes have many different lengths. The holes are shorter by 10 yards than the signs I found. The 145's played like 120 - 125's. Some examples - The Par 4 short 9th I drove and it lists as 265 slightly uphill and that is a long drive for me. My guess is it was 245 ish. The 590 yard par 5 3rd hole I was basically on in two and that doesn't seem possible with my game either. So it was more in 500 range I think. Lots of bugs. We hit two foursomes in front of us that were fairly slow but it was not too bad. The staff is very friendly and beer after the round affordable. Will always play 1-10 when I have time on my LG visits.
This is a difficult course to review. Some of the holes were extraordinary, with the 10th. hole view of Lake George absolutely spectacular.Other holes bordered on ridiculous. The fairways were average, at best; the greens smooth, but, extremely slow. Value was poor. Pace of play okay.Mixed feelings, so, I suppose that would lead to a rating of average.
The course is very nicely laid out and was not crowded. The greens were inconsistent and kind of slow. The course is pretty wide open and was good for us to play. One of our golfers had not played in a long time and she felt comfortable and enjoyed playing. The course was not crowded when we played which put no pressure on us and made the round very enjoyable. You can see Lake George from the clubhouse and the view is beautiful
