I love the Orange Tree as wherever you sit you are so close to the action meaning that you are able to pick up the subtleties and intensity if the performance.
This is a great local theater away from the congestion and prices of London's west end. We saw a production of Shaw's Widower's Houses. It was well produced and acted, of the quality one expects of theater in London. The theater is set up with seating in the round on two levels. It is small and intimate, and there's not a bad seat in the house. Catch a production here.
We love the Orange Tree. Close-up theatre in the round - always brilliantly acted. Makes for such an intimate experience. The only downside is that it's unreserved seating and people just seem to be getting there earlier and earlier to grab their favourite seat!
We saw a production of 'Middlemarch' which was excellent and we absolutely loved the venue. It's amazing that such a professional production can be put on so successfully at this delightful and intimate theatre. Wonderful and we will be back.
My first trip to this very nice theatre. I sat upstairs, where the seats were much more comfortable than many in similar theatres, and I had a good view of the play. However that did not help much as I did not know what on earth was happening in 'Little Light' until the last quarter hour or so.
I went to see the latest play Pomona. It is a really interesting and different play. I have not seen many dystopian plays but this had a really interesting structure which you had to concentrate on. It was beautifully acted. A must.
The Orange Tree theatre started out many years ago in a room above th Orange tree Pub across the road. The purpose built theatre in the round was the result of a collaboration with the local Council who made its construction part of the deal to build the next door office block.Sam Walters, the original director, is just about to retire but the shows are still very original and interesting. Small theatre at its best.
Sometimes I really enjoy the play, sometimes less so, but in all the more than 15 years that I've been going to the Orange Tree, I've never seen anything other than a first-class performance. Expert direction and highly professional acting and the intimate theatre-in-the-round arrangement contribute to a highly enjoyable and memorable evening that is great value too. The upstairs seats are slightly more comfortable and give you a bird's eye view of the performance; downstairs is more intimate and closer to the action. The venue is easy to get to - it's almost opposite Richmond station, which is on the District Line and London Overground and has fast/semi-fast trains to Waterloo and Clapham Junction.
Small intimate theatre in the round. Have visited many times and have always been impressed by the quality and variety of the productions. Small bar , adequate for the size of the theatre. Also well placed to enjoy pre or après theatre dining in the many nearby restaurants.
It's the fact that this is a theatre in the round that really makes it stand out. It really feels like you're part of the play. I think they put on the best French farces ever, and there's a lovely cosy feel to the whole place.
