Paesaggi da sogno!Consigliati a coloro che vogliono fare una passeggiata immersi nella natura senza troppe difficoltà!
Beautiful. I spend a lot of my time in italy just driving around the Sabine region. I want to live there!
Vi consiglio di fare delle Passeggiate a Monti Sabini, la montagna è bellissima, vi consiglia chi può a scalarla.
Everything is so close so you can drive around and see lots in a very short space of time. The hills are full of olive groves and vineyards, little shops selling oil and homemade cheese, restaurants with amazing views of the plains below
The Sabine Hills, as they are called here, is really an entire region which could easily please and cater to a number of visitors with various interests: culture, history, food, nature, etc. Depending on where you base yourself, or even if you're just travelling around, so many opportunities abound. The best part of the Sabine, however, is how off-the-beaten-path it is. Whatever you do decide to do, you'll definitely see more Italians than anyone else; even Romans doing a countryside drive stand out!
I first got to know about the Sabine Hills about 15 years ago, when my husband and I would come the this region for day excursions from Rome. I have always found it breathtaking as it is so unspoilt and have remained agricultural. Olive groves, fruit orchards, rolling hills with numerous medieval hilltop villages 'dottted' all over the countryside. It is so peaceful and green, evergreen because of the 1,000's of olive groves. It is so close to Rome and yet feels like another much more peaceful world. My favourite medieval villages are Farfa (with its magnificent church and monastery), Poggio Mirteto, Fara Sabina, Castelnuovo di Farfa, Monteleone in Sabina, Casperia and Toffia. We loved this area so much that we decided to move to the Sabine Hills to live. My husband and I now live in the medieval hilltop town of Toffia, a beautiful village surrounded by historic walls and perched on top of cliff. We love it here and would not move anywhere else. If you are coming to this area I would really recommend that you hire a car, so that you can explore the area thoroughly. There are many hidden treasures here. There are also a few companies that run cooking holidays and cooking classes plus olive grove tours.
tanto verde e poca gente. una vera delizia visitare questi monti e questi paesini dimenticati dal turismo mordi e fuggi
The Sabine Hills are a region of about 30x15 km between Rome and Rieti, in central Italy. In the area there are more than 30 medieval villages, with churches, castles and so on. The area is incredibly characteristic and the villages are in general smaller and harsher than in regions such as Tuscany and Umbria. The advantages of this area is in its relative proximity with Rome (50-70km) so that it can be visited in a week end, or used as a base to visit the city. The main disadvantage is that this proximity has spoiled some part of the area, especially around the main centres. Also the area is not very developed from a touristic point of view, and this can be an advantage or a disadvantage, according to the points of view.
This is still an undiscovered part of Italy just an hour north of Rome. It is stunningly beautiful, with hill top towns that have stood for centuries, olive groves and winding paths going down around the hills. It certainly rivals Tuscany for natural vistas. Food is local cuisine, fresh ingredients and always friendly service, even when you only have 5 words of Italian. This is not Rome and few speak English.
