Very interesting to see what some people collect, what others want, and what an imagination can lead to- all in one spot. Kay is a lovely, warm, friendly lady- instantly like a long time friend. John is a walking encyclopedia of all his treasures. We will go back every time we go through the area just for the pleasure of it!
So much cool stuff to look at. Also, priced reasonable as well. Everything is pretty much priced out and very well organized. I purchased an old furnace that I've never seen before and I have the perfect place for it.
We drove down from Albany thinking that we would stay for maybe an hour, tops. Well three hours later we headed home with good memories and a trailer full of chairs like my grandpa used to have. John was a wonderful host and fun to visit with! We also enjoyed getting to visit with his wife, Kay.
Made time to visit just before going back home...entrance is up a long driveway boarded by rows and rows of grape vines. Must look wonderful in summer.. Unfortunately the barn was closed but lots of rusty old farm items scattered around outside. Although my daughter thinks this is good stuff - I was hoping to find vintage and retro memorabilia - given the enthusiastic reviews. Peaked through the shed door, but couldnt see anything worth going in for even when open. Maybe the good stock had been depleted and John was away to add to the collection. But from what I could see, this place is more for the country farm rather than interior retro style. Sorry we didnt get to meet John, who sounds like a very interesting person. Perhaps some other time..
What an amazing place! We stopped in on the way home from 4th of July festivities, and I'm so glad we did! There is so much to see, and each piece has a story (its up to you to decide which stories are true!) I could have spent several more hours looking through things and talking with John. I'm glad we live just down the road, because I have a feeling I'll be out there a lot! I definitely recommend stopping in if you are in the area. If you don't see John, just give him a call, you'll be glad you did.
My sister, 10 year old niece, and I visited Riverside Valley Farm last weekend. This place is a true treasure hunter's paradise. If you are an artist who works with salvaged/recycled materials, you will spend a lot of time here! There are all sorts of old metal farm tools, horseshoes and unique finds. If you're not an artist, but appreciate funky yard art, you too will be happy you made the trip. All kinds of colorful critters are scattered throughout several old barns. John and Kay are super nice folks who make time to talk with you. My niece had a great time looking at turtles and talking with Kay while we were there. If you're a history buff, talk to John- you'll learn all kinds of interesting history as well as unusual uses of some of the farm equipment. If you're a photographer, there are kinds of exciting photo opportunities. It's a fun way to spend an hour or two. Thanks to my sister, I walked away with a multi-colored flying pig for my herb garden. The only thing I wish was different? That I didn't have the same taste as Kay. At least two things I really wanted to buy belong to her private collection. What can I say? We have good taste! Have fun & take home a conversation starter.
A nice collection of unusual and interesting farmland salvage with lots of patina. Great if you like hunting through the kind of stuff you see on American Pickers. Had some stuff I had never seen but not everything is for sale. Be prepared to be deeply engaged in conversation with John.
We were in Roseburg for a weekend of car races. We have been to Roseburg several times and had already done the wine tours, the covered bridges, the historical museum and were searching for something different to see on Saturday morning before the racetrack opened. I saw the TA review of Riversdale Valley Farm and we decided it would be an interesting place to check out.I had the address, but still missed the sign and had to backtrack. It's a short distance from the highway. When we talked with the owner, John, he suggested that folks call ahead and then he will be sure to be there to greet them.As others have said, this is just an amazing collection of stuff. In our travels around the country, we have been to many antique and collectibles shops, but this is, by far, the largest one we've seen. The thing that impressed us the most was how well organized it is. Each of the several barns contain specified items and John can give you the history on many of them.If you are into collectibles, or just enjoy watching the History Channel's American Pickers, this place is a must see!
We were going to do my daughter's maternity pics at a nearby vineyard, but were unable to and ended up totally by accident at Riversdale...what a happy accident! John was so helpful in pointing out props we could use and different locations on the farm that would take beautiful pics. There were so many things to look at, it didn't take long for the head to start spinning with all the possibilities!! Unfortunately, we were limited on our time, so we weren't able to browse quite like I had wanted to, but we plan on returning ~ soon ~ so I can share the experience with my husband...and to take baby pics once our granddaughter makes her debut!
If you like hunting for hidden treasures in the form of collectibles, old signs, tables, chairs, tractor parts, mid-century patio chairs, fountain stools, this is the place. Owner, Mr. Baird, a wonderful host, will talk your leg off. A delightful experience.
