If you haven´t ever washed your socks and dried them close to the fire, this isn´t the place for you. It is a ¨hippy¨place and all that that implies. No bad vibes if you mind your own business and enjoy the location and the HOT water. The best time to go is Jan thru March. Not too many people and since there is not a cold water source to cool off close by the cold winter air makes it possible to cool off if you over heat.
We hiked like 6 miles to find this all natural hot springs and I was very disappointed. I had my 11 year old with me and EVERYONE was naked. I didn't know as I am new to the area. People were making out and it was really gross. We will not be going back.
We first stopped at the ranger station who gave us a map. They let us know that we were going on a busy day. The fee campground was full. We arrived to a full parking lot with kind people, they looked questionable. As we crossed the bridge it was a breathtaking looking up and down the river we hiked up and to the right. The hand rail was great. We saw nude people who were courteous around our 7 yearold. We did not see or smell any pot or alcohol. it was also very clean no garbage of butts. We have been twice and will continue to go back.If you're concerned about inappropriate activities make lots of noise when cresting the hill by the springs.
Huge potholes getting there. About 20 dirty, scary feeling, grifters with their kids, dogs and chickens. Felt unsafe. We left.
I love a soak in the Umpqua Hot Springs after a long week of camping. It's not a long hike, but it's a pretty intense one. There's a sign on the bathrooms before you head up warning about possible nudity. This is Oregon, and we love being one with nature. So yes, you will most likely end up seeing some naked, pot smoking, hippies.. Get over it, get in a tub, and soak your cares away in some breathtakingly beautiful natural hot springs.
Beautiful, drive. Commune with nature. When you pack it in remember to pack it out. Not handicap accessible. Almost a year around trail. Swim Suits are optional.
Dirty and gross! We were so disappointed to see the condition of this place! Don't waste the gas and try Stewart Hot Springs just north of Shasta City in Calif.
The place smells like weed and alcohol, and is a dump.People are naked, that probably shouldn't be naked. Its a out of the way hang out for druggys and hippies freaks who think its still 1967.The war is over .. avoid unless you wanna catch something.
This is a beautiful place...just the drive to get there is awesome..but if you are not in good shape for hiking, this is one you might want to leave for this for the more agile. But if you feel left out don't, just keep going up the road and driving, there is so much up there to see like the water flume way up at the top of the mountain. I don't know where the road ends we went so far we turned around where we could and were very satisfied. Tokettee is the name of the place I think.
The assortment of characters one encounters in the springs, on the way up, on the way down and in the parking lot are worth the trip in and of itself. A beautiful place.
