I wish there was an option for zero stars because that is what I feel is deserved for the experience I had there last Friday night. We had tickets to see the Impractical Jokers show at 10pm February 21st, for barstool seats. Shouldn't have been a problem, except the rows of seats were placed so closely together that we were not able to shimmy down our row to get to our seats. Yes, we are overweight, however it is not a rare thing nowadays. A large portion of the population is. And while it is NOT the venue's fault that I am this size, it is definitely their fault for not letting people know that they aren't accessible for everyone before tickets are purchased. My daughter and son-in-law were with us and while they are not overweight at all, they both had problems also due to the row of seats in front of them being so close to their seats. There is no excuse for that. Ushers, security, nobody seemed to be able to offer any advice other than to "write a letter to management." I find it hard to believe there weren't a couple of folding chairs available somewhere that we could have sat in while listening to the show even if we couldn't have seen it. Especially after paying nearly $50 a ticket after taxes and fees. Incredibly disappointing waste of time, especially being so upset that we couldn't focus on the show after that anyway. Also, no reply from management, who I did write to. I have never had this type of experience and will never be going back to this venue.
I have had many great times at the ROMT, great local bands, friends and some beverages. This venue allows you to get close to the action, or slip in the corner and disappear.
Easy parking 1 block away, very neat old place, just the right venue for a comedy show. The chairs are folding plastic chairs so not great for a long period of time, but for the 1 1/2 hour show we were OK. The have a bar which is very busy before the show starts, so you might want to get 2 drinks from the beginning. They asked everyone to stay seated during the show and keep off the phone, this was great as we were at a concert the night before and people all around us were texting and face booking, very annoying. Would go again as the size is just right for an intimate show, and Royal Oak has hundreds of great places to eat after the show.
This is my neighborhood concert venue and I love it! They have a pretty decent lineup of up-and-coming bands plus a few big name acts from time to time. I saw Adele here for $17 before she got big. General admission is kind of pain as you have to get their early (and stand around) for a good spot, but they also have assigned seating in the Balcony which is pretty great when you don't want to stand around all night.
This is a great place to see a concert. The location is perfect for grabbing dinner and drinks before the show.
We really love this Royal Oak gem! Its a great place to see your favorite bands! I have been in Royal Oak for over 30 years and this theater has been rocking longer than that.
Royal Oak is ONE Cool Town, as is its' neighbor Ferndale. The ROMT is such an amazing place to see a show. Crowds are beautiful, polite, intelligent, creative and interesting. Doesn't get better. Been seeing shows Here since I was a Kid. Returned after decades of living elsewhere, and it is still the best location for large bands in a somewhat intimate setting.
Truly horrible venue and staffing. Freezing cold (all requests for improvement ignored), with arctic drafts coming from the back of the house from doors in the lobby, metal folding chairs, stench of chlorinated cleaning material permeating the frigid air. So cold, no coats were removed where we were sitting. The performer arrived half hour late, but could overlook that IF the audience's comfort was even slightly accommodated, and NO info provided by anyone in any employed capacity. Learned by people checking Twitter account. Even Ms. Poundstone was treated shabbily, as there was NO ONE back stage or nearby to get her either tissue or water. Audience members stepped up and took care of her. What seemed to be the problem was EXTREME cheapness on the part of management and/or ownership. Cost cutting and scrimping to eke out every possible penny from the paying crowd.Would NEVER set foot in this place again. The entertainment was fabulous and deserved far better treatment, as did everyone who paid money to be present.
Saw a band there recently that is known for awesome sound, but left extremely disappointed. Sound engineer with the band had to pump up the volume to compensate for the massive echoing. At that point 1/4 of the people walked out. Should have some benches or bar stools on the main floor for those who purchase standing room only. Would not see a show here again.
You are eligible for a parking ticket in the city of Royal Oak even after paying to park in a public garage. I learned this the hard way in March of 2014 when I returned to my vehicle after a night on the town. It's sad to see a municipality so desperate for revenue. I doubt if I will ever feel the need to return.
