Being a lover of fortified wine, I have found my true home. Having already visited a number of wineries in the area, I would have to rate Campbells as producing easily the best of that type that I had tasted. Our staff member was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The vertical tasting (price) of both their muscat and tokay, was one of my most memorable experiences, in a cellar door, ever. Definitely will be visiting there again on my next visit.
We had the pleasure of visiting this well run cellar door, enjoying the banter & shared love of wine with two cellar- gentlemen who were engaging, and not in any way pretentious or pushy for sales. The wines sell themselves so great staff with a love of Campbell's wines were an added bonus. We had not intended to have lunch but spied a little clipboard containing various nibbles where you could order as much or as little as you wanted. Of course, we ended up ordering more than we needed as the price dictated it would be a small serving, but lo & behold, a mere $5 (each) got you a giant serving of goodies such as pate, cheeses, smoked trout pate, matching biscuits etc. we walked out very well fed for about $30 (& that was for two if us & yes we love our food!). Added bonus being that you could order any wine/fortified off the tasting list of approx 37 things by the glass to enjoy with lunch. If you are looking for the complete package in a winery without feeling like u need heels or a button down shirt, go and enjoy this relaxing cellar door experience.
Great range of wines, well worth trying and reasonably priced. Riesling was a very pleasant surprise and a standout for the area and in compared to others too.
The Rutherglen district has around 20 wineries and by far, the best fortified wines in Australia. Campbells winery boasts beautiful, smooth, tummy warming Muscat - great on a cold winter's night! The Campbell family has been in Rutherglen for many generations and produce varieties of red and white wines as well as the fortified. The grounds around the winery are beautiful and during the wine festivals in March and June each year, Campbells WInery entertain visitors from far and wide. You will love the experience as well as the wine.
We love to visit the Rutherglen area and we arrived at Campbell's winery at a quiet time and were delighted to have some undivided attention from the lovely cellar door staff. We tasted some great wines and purchased quite a few to take home. We had already had lunch otherwise the grazing menu looked great. Next time perhaps.
We visited the cellar door at Campbell's on a recent visit to Rutherglen. The staff were very knowledgeable and provided great insights about the current vintage range. We were unhurried as we sampled most of their wines over an hour or so. We also enjoyed lunch during over tasting session with a good selection of cold meats, pate and cheese. Needless to say, we were impressed and left with a few bottles for the home cellar. The grounds were very neat and well presented.Thank you for your vote if you found the review helpful.
We attended Campbells as part of a hens day with the plan to only stay for a little bit, we ended up staying for the afternoon due to the amazing service we received and the gorgeous setting that Campbells offered. A must stop of if you are visiting Rutherglen wine region.
I've visited Campbells a number of times and it's always a winner. Recently visited with my boyfriend and the lady behind the counter was just wonderful, I can't remember her name but she was getting married very soon, so thank you to her.The wines are just amazing, I was unlucky enough to be the designated driver but my boyfriend was very impressed with the range of wines on tasting. We left with a nice bottle of Sparkling Shiraz which had just been released. Would definitely recommend making this a stop if you're in the area.
I spent plenty of time here and enjoyed every moment of it. I like that you can purchase small, very reasonably priced accompaniments (cheese, olives, crackers, pate, fruit, biscuits) to have alongside your tasting. Although I came expecting mainly to come away with some muscat, it was the Durif that really enchanted me. "The Barkley" Durif was simply amazing. My bottle is already gone, and I want more. Guess I'll just have to come back again!
Beautiful setting and ambience. I tried a few of the reds and didn't find any I particularly loved but I liked several.Worth visiting, but I wasn't blown away.
