Lenyűgöző, hatalmas de mégis emberi. Építészeti remekmű a kellő és megfelelő spiritualitással. Bensőséges, meleg de mégis monumentális belső térrel rendelkező épület.
The church with its impressive size, interesting brick architecture and colourfully painted interior is a must if you are in Szeged. The large square in front of it with the colonnades offers a nice view. The interior paintings are influenced by Byzantine style, and the Virgin Mary in traditional local dress painted on the ceiling above the altar is also special. The organ is also impressive. It's a pity that the towers are only open occasionally of for groups...
What a beautiful building in the centre of Szeged. Well worth a visit particularly in the evening as the lighting of the features really highlight the surrounding area.
I have been to numerous European cathedrals and this is one of the better ones. No matter what time of year or weather (the first time I went it was pouring rain) the cathedral is beautiful and to me will always be the central attraction in Szeged. Because there is a large square around it with cover, you can get fantastic photos of the cathedral no matter what the weather. If the weather is nice you can walk around Dom Ter, the large square. The exterior is magnificent and the interior is just as so. While it is not embroidered with gold or other riches, the murals that surround every corner of the vast roof are spectacular. Do not go to Szeged without spending time at the Votive Church.
Amazing construction in the center of Szeged. Worth a visit to check the church and the surroundings.
This church stands right across Pantheon. It is twin spired church built similiar to St. Marco Tower in Venice. It has beautiful organs, lot of space.
I've visited Szeged many times before and, of course, seen the Dom (Cathedral of Our Lady) many times, it dominates the city skyline from miles around. To be honest, it isn't the prettiest Cathedral on the outside being built of brick. However, I was totally amazed when I finally took a visit inside the Cathedral; stunningly decorated and painted walls and ceilings!!Definitely spend sometime walking around and studying all the beautiful murals.Moral of this visit: don't judge a book by it's cover!
The Votive Church in Szeged is one of the main attractions of the town. It's placed on one end of a large square, where they have summer theater events every year (you should visit a performance is you have a chance). The church itself is not an old one, but it has an atmosphere to it. The walls are not marble covered, but the style and the paintings have some oriental touch. We have visited a mass and the feeling was not much different from that of any famous Gothic cathedrals. If you are in Szeged you should go and visit the the church.
I made a point of visiting this church for personal reason. I was baptized there many, many, many years ago. It has two impressive spires which can be seen just about everywhere in the downtown area. It became my guiding light as I walked around the riverfront. . It is not as old as many other churches I've seen in Europe but is very impressive.
At present doing huge really deep excavations .Inside a tranquil retreat , lovely paintings on the wall .What fascinated me was the medieval looking contraption, used to reach the high ceilings, wooden with wheel and a scary looking extendable ladder ,,, not for the feint hearted.
